Northern Iowa @ NDSU
UNI has the last of three straight tough road games - 1-1 so far on the road.
NDSU is coming off of a thrashing of SDSU.

NDSU Defense is looking every bit as good as the past years... Really gelling at the line. I'm going with bison pressure both QB's and force at least one turnover

Now that was a football game. I was ready to say congrats to the UNI fans. Panthers were very close to winning this one.

Re: Northern Iowa @ NDSU
I asked this question in the scores thread and nobody answered so I'll ask it here:
Does the MVFC not use instant replay?
I'm wondering because it looked to me like, during North Dakota State's game winning drive on the play before the last big 4th down conversion, the North Dakota State fullback caught the football then fumbled it but the officials called it an incomplete pass. That was huge because UNI picked it up. If that had been called a fumble...and I do think it was a fumble...UNI gets the ball and wins the game.
But regardless of whether I'm right about it being a fumble or not it was CERTAINLY close enough and a big enough play in the game to review the call on the field IF replay is in place. I was flabbergasted when they didn't review that play. But then I thought maybe the MVFC isn't doing that yet.

Re: Northern Iowa @ NDSU
If you watched the game, several times play was stopped for a review of a play. If a coach challenges and loses, then they are charged a timeout and do not get another challenge. UNI coach lost a challenge early on a TD call. I didn't think the fullback had possession on that play and they replayed it for the ESPN3 crowd. This is the second year the MVFC is using replay for all games.JohnStOnge wrote:I asked this question in the scores thread and nobody answered so I'll ask it here:

Re: Northern Iowa @ NDSU
Ok I didn't watch the whole game. Some of the beginning then turned it back on while NDSU was on its game winning drive. When ESPN3 played the replay it sure looked to me like he caught it, tucked it away, and took at least one step with possession before he got whacked. But the main thing is I'm surprised that they didn't even review the call.If you watched the game, several times play was stopped for a review of a play. I have some bias but I think UNI is a really good team with an absolutely brutal schedule. They can afford another loss and should still get an at-large. They should also still be ranked just outside of the top 10.
Going forward, every team EWU has played or will play deserves the same consideration.

It's called the EWU hangover, silly. Give them a couple weeks and they will make a run. Or their schedule is just that tough.Grizalltheway wrote:Yeah. Good game but the end was, as usual, very frustrating to watch. Playing not to lose instead of playing to win has done us in too many times to count. It is also why UNI will never win the big game as long as MF is the coach.

I'm pretty fucking sick of losses like this.
Also, I'm pretty fucking sick of playing an FBS and multiple top 10 FCS teams every year OOC. It's one thing to brag about willing to play anyone any time....it's another to put your team behind the fucking 8 ball year after year after year because you play a brutal OOC and then have to face 2 or 3 top 10 teams in conference.
UNI needs to cut the shit and go the way of YSU when it comes to scheduling.

Re: Northern Iowa @ NDSU
I agree on the scheduling. Dannen needs to get his shit together. Why are we going 5 weeks between home games? So now we've faced a tough schedule, have a mediocre record because of it and now you expect our casual fans to give a shit and show up the rest of the season?clenz wrote:I'm pretty fucking sick of losses like this.

How far in advance is the conference schedule set?clenz wrote:I'm pretty fucking sick of losses like this.

UNI has Poly, EWU, and Montana x2 to go along with an FBS game going forward for OOC through 2017.
It's fun to see match ups like that but UNI played an FBS, 2 top 5 teams, a top 10 team, and a Poly team that was top 15 at the time and likely gets back to top 20.....
And did that all with only 1 of those at home.
2 losses to the top 5 by 1 score each on the road, one with 35 seconds left on the clock. A top 10 win. And a destruction of Poly.
The reality is UNI is every bit as good as NDSU, and very well may be a top 3 team...just like last year....but once again are behind the 8 ball due to schedule

Re: Northern Iowa @ NDSU
That's what I suspected. Throw away the timing of the games and it's a good schedule. The problem is the conference portion and getting NDSU and ISUr right out of the gates and on the road. If you had opened conference play with Missouri State and South Dakota you'd be top 5 right now and the rest of the schedule would simply be the reality of playing in the MVFC.clenz wrote:A couple months I think.kalm wrote:

Poly is in a similar situation except that ISU ended up not being good.
Next year we get you guys at home and play at Washington State and NDSU. We could get MSU and Poly as our first two conference games on the road. I love the home and homes between the BSC and MVFC especially with the elite programs but it would be nice to have one breather like a Missouri State in there.

Yeah. I wouldn't mind SUU and UNC back on the Big Sky OOC schedule for UNI.kalm wrote:That's what I suspected. Throw away the timing of the games and it's a good schedule.
