Charleston Southern @ Citadel (Game and News Thread)

Post by BJuice »

Future of Charleston Southern vs. Citadel Series Uncertain
“I’d like to see it be a yearly rivalry, get the mayors of Charleston and North Charleston involved and make it a trophy game,” (CSU Head Coach, Jamey) Chadwell said Tuesday. “I think it’s good for our city, for our state and for FCS football.”
“I would think it makes sense, as close as the two institutions are,” said Citadel coach Mike Houston, “to work something out in the future to continue playing each other. But that will be up to the administrators.”
“When we can play each other, it brings more notoriety to the city, and to what our programs are trying to accomplish,” Chadwell said. “I hope we can continue it going down the line.”

Bucs90 and citdog are locked in a fetid shed somewhere on John's Island in a Saw-like scenario. That's the only explanation I can think of for their absence this week.

As for the "rivalry", CSU could win every matchup in every sport for the next five years and The Cid still wouldn't acknowledge them as a rival.

I started it just for the news and game info. I'll leave the trash talk to them.

Bobby Ruff, Son of Former Citadel Great (Brian Ruff), Was 'Meant to End up at Charleston Southern'
“You know, things happen for a reason and in my mind, Bobby was meant to end up at Charleston Southern,” Brian Ruff said. “CSU is where he needed to be. The school itself was a great fit for Bobby and to be honest, the last thing he needed was to play where I played and have to feel pressure to live up to what I did. Bobby is his own person.”
Now Brian and wife Jody attend every Charleston Southern game. This season, Bobby is a second-team linebacker and is playing regularly in every game. He has 12 tackles through the first three games of the season. Bobby excels as a pass rusher from the outside in passing situations...
Bobby is now 6-3, 210 pounds. He is stronger, faster and plays the game with a high level of passion and intensity. “He’s a better athlete right now than I was at his age,” Brian said. “He has worked really hard to get bigger and he’s not that skinny kid running around out there now. I’m really proud of the way he has worked and developed and hopefully there is more to come down the road.”
“It’s not about Brian Ruff and Bobby Ruff, it’s about CSU and The Citadel,” he (Bobby) said. “I have tried to prepare for this game like any other game. Sure, there is some emotion to it but I think that will all go away once the game starts. Then it’s just football. It’s going to be fun, but every game is fun for me.”
As I've watched Bobby play I've told people, the more I see him in action, the more he reminds me of John Lynch from the NFL (Tampa Bay & Denver).

Everything - Citadel Wins, Tomsula, 'Hard Knocks' - Is Clicking for Charleston Southern Football
(Gene Sapakoff: Columnist, Post & Courier - Charleston, SC)
The mood is joyful on Buc Club Road. And why not? Charleston Southern football has never enjoyed so much actual and peripheral success: Charleston Southern, off to a 2-1 start, won 18 games in Chadwell’s first two seasons as head coach, the most victories over any two-year period at CSU. Jim Tomsula, a former Bucs assistant coach, is in his first season as head coach of the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers. Charles James, a former CSU cornerback, was a star of HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series this summer.
“It definitely makes us feel like we’re the best football program around Charleston,” senior linebacker Aaron Brown said. “I believe that, and all my teammates believe that. It’s just a real confidence boost to beat The Citadel before we start playing conference games.”
“It’s always great to play them and it’s always great to beat them,” Brown said. “You would think the respect would have changed with us beating them two years in a row, but I honestly don’t think the respect factor has changed too much. I really think we’re still working towards getting that respect from The Citadel.”
Senior wide receiver Nathan Perera: “We view it as a rivalry. I’m sure they don’t yet, or they might now.”

No. It's time CSU and it's fans progress a bit. We shouldn't be talking shit to the Citadel....for the same fairly obvious reason Coastal and Liberty don't really spend much time talking shit to CSU. We are playing catch up to you guys. And we'll never get there if we are trading jabs with a program that's playing catch up to us.

CSU played a great game and shut us down on offense - kudos to them.

You, however, remain a first class turd. Try to get something done about this weird man crush you have on The Citadel.

Good luck to the Bucs going forward.

Thanks. Let us know when you are ready to play us again. Anytime anywhere.

Good job, CSU. My nephew and brother in law were at the game and said CSU looked very good. Solid and consistent. CCU better watch it.

Thanks. Our problem with CCU is being consistent. You guys have overall better talent...but not so much that we can't win. We just have to be consistent and get some turnovers. And for God's sake....will that QB hurry up and graduate!!! I think he's harder to defend than Thigpen was.
