We really should have stayed in Iraq and Afghanistan for much longer...and I'm speaking decades. You can't destabilize a region and think that 10 years or whatever it was is enough time to have the people figure it out. With the rise of ISIS, the lives we lost in our post-Sept 11 wars seem to have been in vain...something that should be completely unacceptable to all of us.

Anyways, the way we treated West Germany and Japan after WWII is a good model of how to rebuild nations. The Japanese in particular were completely hated but we stuck with them for decades, ingraining ourselves into their society, investing into their economy and infrastructure, and showing them that Americans are good people. We built trust over many generations and we now benefit from their society as they do from ours; the same goes for the Germans. The whole point is that it's a game of patience, something we seem to lack nowadays (understandbly so after Vietnam).

Also, don't take me wrong, the Arab societies have a shit ton wrong with them as well. We have our share of blame to accept, but those countries are doing absolutely nothing to help their fellow humans...and it's not like they have no means to. But I can rant about that some other time.

Overall, I guess I genuinely feel bad for the regular people trying to leave the ME. Between the West's perception of Muslims, the rise of ISIS, and the fact that other Arab countries simply don't care about them, they're stuck in a place where hope seems (and perhaps is) non-existant. I can't even imagine that type of life.

in fact you are just using the other tactic in the playbook (the first being to call someone a bigot) which is to equate criticism of islam to wanting to bomb bomb bomb

Id just be content with saying no no no on their immigration papers

but please.. continue
I was explaining to you your own misunderstanding. But please continue to run with the liberal supports radical islam mythology. It know it makes you feel warm down below. :thumb:
Not supporting radical Islam, kalm, but having more fury for people who want to restrict abortions after 20 weeks or city assemblies that may have *gasp* held a prayer before a meeting than at muslims that throw gay people off buildings and shoot cartoonists that make fun of them.

And on top of that, don't see anything troubling about them living in western societies and possibly even voting. Diversity a strength dontcha know, we just need to take care of the Christian right and our society of diverse worldviews will flourish!

Please show me some examples of liberals caring less about muslim atrocities. American culture wars are sport and thus more popular than agreeing that muslins are bad. Muslins are bad is such a depressing topic. :ohno:

(All those people rallying in support of Charlie Hebdo must have been conks. Who knew France had so many?)

How about portraying white, blue-collar republican voters as obstinate, closed-minded mouth breathers too dumb to know what's good for them while believing you can fix poor Muslim countries by going over there to preach education and birth control for women? Any suggestion that culture may play a role in any country being poor is scoffed at yet liberals never tire of reminding us how much more poverty, teen pregnancy, divorce, and broken families there are in backward Bible Belt states.

We hear about how terrible the Christian Right is but there's apparently no pause about trying to integrate largely uneducated people from countries with really strict religious beliefs into a western society. We must shame ourselves for even thinking those thoughts because that would violate the teachings of the Church of Multiculturalism.

I don't know if I could say that liberals don't care about bad Muslim behavior or that they think they're not as bad as a crazy clerk refusing to marry gays, but they are very much conflicted on this stuff.

Didn't take that long for Germany and Japan...Japan 7 years military occupation. Germany a decade.

Kalm, that may not apply to you but there are people who are Sam Harris when it comes to religious folks in wealthy countries but turn into Noam Chomsky the second you bring up poor African and ME countries.

It's sort of the left's version of people that complain about big government while supporting wasteful anti-drug efforts.
