Re: New DI Membership Standards
2 keys for the WAC to be forced to expand. PAC 10 goes to 12 and the MWC loses 2 member 1 to the P10, 1 to B12. Another is Boise St. going MWC or the MWC going 12 in hopes of getting a BCS autobid. The WAC tried to get to 10 a couple of years ago inviting N.Texas but they said no in hopes of getting in CUSA in the next round of raiding.

Another key to the Texas schools is (does the WAC realize they're stuck with La Tech and they're probably not going anywhere) So bridge the gap in the #1 football state with a Texas school or 2, or live in denial and hope that UCD, Montana, CP, Sac St. are ready and want to move.

Re: New DI Membership Standards
If WAC needs someone quick, I could see them pulling Texas St in. This would help get UTSA in 2013 and bridge the LA gap as you mentioned. Thing is that WAC doesn;t want a bunch of FCS and startup teams to "dilute" the conference. But then again Boise St looks to be poached and who else is WAC going to poach from?Fresno St. Alum wrote:Another key to the Texas schools is (does the WAC realize they're stuck with La Tech and they're probably not going anywhere) So bridge the gap in the #1 football state with a Texas school or 2, or live in denial and hope that UCD, Montana, CP, Sac St. are ready and want to move.

Only FBS options Arkansas St., ULL, ULM. I think that the WAC would take their chances that a FCS start up has a better chance of success down the road over those 3. Arkansas St. would be the 1 if they did. New state for the WAC, more success than the others but not muchslycat wrote:If WAC needs someone quick, I could see them pulling Texas St in. And adding a commuter school will weaken the WAC IMHO. Adding another big fish in their state has far more REALISTIC upside.

Too bad most conferences don't deal in reality. Seriously they don't. Fresno St is a commuter school. We draw well. None of those Big fish in a small pond have said they want to be FBS. Only the Texas schools. The WAC is just looking to survive if it expands after they lose members, they will look for 1. will you play FBS football 2. are you west of the Miss.

Said publically. Most of the machinations happen in private.
Fresno has the support of major metro area, and no real strong dominant state school People don't grow up bleeding Cal colors like they do burnt orange.

Everyone here like fuckin USC and UCLA. as their "real" team and then Fresno St. or they hate us. I grew up liking Nebraska. Still do. I'd go for Fresno over them some of the others still like USC. Fuckin lame.dbackjon wrote:Said publically. Most of the machinations happen in private.

I know Texas is filled w/ UT and A&M fans but they aren't joining the WAC, they'll take who they can get that looks the prettiest.

Same here in SD. USC has a huge bandwagon following with people cheering on the Trojans. God knows most common folks can't afford the University of Spoiled Children. I guess I can't blame them too much, USC is ALWAYS on TV in SoCal. It will be interesting to see how many people jump off the wagon if they start losing now that Carrol is gone.Fresno St. Alum wrote:Everyone here like **** USC and UCLA. as their "real" team and then Fresno St. or they hate us. Montana is doing the study; Montana St. isn't and is nowhere ready for a move up. Montana's 19.5 M season ticket holders, average attendance of 25 M and strong out-of-state alumni following are unique trump cards. The UM AD only forked over the money for the study when they already knew the answer would be positive. The study results are merely to facilitate the change management.mlbowl wrote:I don't see Montana moving without Montana St.Fresno St. Alum wrote: You guys willing to come in? Montana, UC Davis, Cal Poly would all be on the WAC radar. No of you have shown interest in FBS. The 2 Texas schools have.

shouldn't that be 19.5 K?kemajic wrote:Montana is doing the study; Montana St. isn't and is nowhere ready for a move up. Anyway, here's an example of our issues. I went to the TXST/UT baseball game Tuesday night (@UT) Sitting in front of me was a lady who turned around to talk to me and a few other fans (from TXST) next to me. She says "Oh, I went to SWT (TXST)." Has 2 (count 'em) 2 Master's Degress from SWT but, she is a UT season ticket holder....wearing the burnt orange and even her hair was kinda almost that color....her reasoning is "she lives in Austin and UT is more convenient!"
That's why we fight/struggle for attendance numbers. And it isn't that it's more convenient now, is it?

19.5 million season ticket holders? You guys need a bigger stadium.
hmmm...now I've got myself wondering...what would a 20 million person capacity stadium look like? O_O

He likes to use the M for 1000 instead of the standard K that is in everyday use. It is correct usage in finance/banking/accounting circles but kem likes to use it instead. I think he takes some joy in the M that may have something to do with the M on the mountain behind WaGriz.∞∞∞ wrote:19.5 million season ticket holders? You guys need a bigger stadium.

That is ridiculous.
