Hampton (3-2) beat Princeton (1-3) 28-23 to snap a two-game losing streak, despite a 427-396 yardage deficit. The Tigers failed on 6 of 7 trips in the red zone.

Given the pub date, I presume the game occurred on Sat 09 OCT 11.

I'd say the above has hurt the league, not killed it. I think participating in the playoffs would do a ton of good for the SWAC.

Agreed taking away the automatic playoff bid really hurt this great league a decade ago.Especially now that Prairie View has experienced a complete re-surgence in football.

The 0-19 all-time in the playoffs would indicate otherwise.

We have no commissioner. We have eight college presidents who are hiding their collective heads in the sand. Maybe if I gave $100K or more per year to my dear alma mater, Her Honor Ms. Faust ( current prez of HU) might listen to me for 5 minutes. But I don't, and she ain't.

But play against one of the other FCS schools now and lose and you will get the tired Tubby Raymond mindset of because we stomped a team today, we would have stomped them 30 years ago.

Southern&Grambling will not interfere with the Bayou Classic too much money at stake for both schools!!!

Not really. Only four out of the 19 times was JSU not the SWAC team with the best record:

Grambling 1985 - also went to playoffs and lost
Grambling 1989 - also went to playoffs and lost
Grambling 1990 - both GSU and JSU were 8-3 but JSU was 5-1 SWAC, GSU was 3-3
Southern 1997 - may be the only year you'd have a case, but comparison sake, SU lost 33-3 to FAMU who lost 52-37 in the first round

No doubt its still the CAA. Top to bottom the CAA has gotten STRONGER because the weaker programs have either dropped football (Hofstra, Northeastern) or are leaving (URI). The only program of any consequence that has left is Umass. Never played in the CAA GST and 1 season ODU don't count. Its still the top I-AA football conference, and will remain the top I-AA conference, at least until JMU and UD leave.

As of next (2013) season, teams left:

JMU: playoffs 5 of last 8, 2 semis, won NC
UR: 07'-09': semis, won NC, qtr finals
W&M: 09'-10': semis, qtr finals
UD: won NC 03', qtr finals 04', NC games 07' & 10'
Towson: playoffs last season, will likely be voted pre season #1 in CAA
Nova: 08'-10': qtr finals, won NC, semi finals
UNH: playoffs I-AA current best 8 straight seasons
Maine: playoffs 08', qtr finals last season

That is a damn good 8 team core for a I-AA conferece (of course a couple more will be added). Not a bad program in the bunch. As you can see above
-In the last 3 seasons ALL of them have been in the playoffs.
-In the last 4 seasons 5 have been in the semis, 3 have been in the NC game, and 2 have won NC's.

No other conference has even close to that top to bottom. Will still be the top I-AA conference, hands down.

THe Big South at #7? That seems high.

They are placing all the money on Liberty and SB strength in that ranking.

My guess is the next attempt will be the "played them tough" strategy.

I have no problem with this line of thinking - although top 25 is a bit harsh - top 20 at least.
