Why do you continue with personal attacks? I didn't attack you (unless you are thin-skinned and can't take a joke.) This is CS and the Internet. Is every skit a home run? No...but if you watch some of the guys/ladies who came out of that show in the mid-late 2000's and don't find them funny then you truly do NOT have a sense of humor any more.
Look back at the original characters...Chase, Belushi, Radner, Curtain. One of my faves was Emily Litella's editorial rants...

And BTW Commienez...my name calling was in response to YOUR personal attack...which was absent of any comment or criticism of SNL. Just like now. Other than saying, "They're funny...you just don't have a sense of humor." I thought liberals were suppose to own nuance.Pwns wrote:I'm not saying I agree or disagree with this, but you could argue that this has to do with the fact that comedy is about one-liners and not nuance. Conservative viewpoints often make less sense with a cursory, superficial look at an issue and trying to put opinion in the form of satire is generally harder for conservatives.
In my opinion the easiest targets on the left for satire are feminists and racial justice types. I think we all know you are just begging for a s***storm if you go down that road, though.
Ultimately, the agenda of any media is to get eyes and ears so they can make money. That's the important thing to keep in mind.

Jimmy's not as straight up funny as Will and Tina, but he's found his niche on the Tonight Show, it's perfect for him. He's a nice guy, or at least comes across as a nice everyguy, and his musical comedy is where he's really funny. He's perfect for that show. Will Ferrell is far funnier than Fallon, but he wouldn't work out on a show like the Tonight Show - that wouldn't be a fit.Ibanez wrote:Will and Tina were good. So was Jason. Agreed, Ferrell is still Ferrell, either you like him or you don't, and let's be honest, if you don't like Ferrell it's really more of a problem for you. Just saying.AZGrizFan wrote:Oh, for **** sake. It was VINTAGE Will Ferrell....he hasn't changed a bit.Ibanez wrote:

I stopped watching SNL 20 years ago when the writing ceased being humorous.

Z, Billy Crystal was only on for one year. Joe Piscapo was during the early 80s and Norm MacDonald was in the 90s.Ibanez wrote:Will and Tina were good. So was Jason. But I never liked Jimmy Fallon. I didn't see the appeal.AZGrizFan wrote:

There was literally no overlap with any of them. Or did you mean that each of the seasons they were on individually was bad?

Honestly, I didn't check. There was about a 15 year period where I didn't watch--except maybe sporadically. I went and looked later and saw some people that I had NO idea had ever been on that show....and many that I'd never heard of. I'll stipulate to the fact that it has been humorless at times, but honestly, the past 6-10 years have been some of the funniest EVER.Vidav wrote:Z, Billy Crystal was only on for one year. Maybe. But you have to look at his body of work, it's gone downhill. He was good, I really enjoyed Anchorman, Talladega Nights, The Campaign, The Other Guys, etc..

True. I catch a clip every now and then but I can't tell you the last time I saw a full episode. Comedy Central used to air them in the mid 90s.AZGrizFan wrote:Honestly, I didn't check. I thought the episode that was Justin Timberlake's 5th time hosting was good, especially the opening part with the "5 timers club".
This last episode's Jeopardy skit was classic.

Re: Why Does SNL Lampoon More GOPs than Donks?
I literally haven't watched Saturday Night Live for decades until the recent spate of specials around Valentine's Day and the 40th Anniversary. Some good, some bad. I heartily enjoyed many of the old clips they showed, from early on when I used to watch.
My guess as to why writers lampoon conservatives more than liberals/progressives is that is what the writers find funniest. Liberalism generally plays better in sound bites than conservatism imo, so it is more natural to lampoon that which requires more thought than less thought.
I agree with CID & Ibanez on the Jeopardy skit. Really funny.
