But will that be enough? I don't really want troops on the ground, but weaken ISIS enough so the Kurds, Iraqi Army and Assad can wipe them out.
Theyre driving around in Humvees and Hiluxes out in the open as we speak.

I'd say we could do some first rate degrading of their fighting ability from about 30,000 feet with no worries

hell I'll donate gas money if thats what it takes

We're bombing and killing their people...they are incapable of sending Stealth bombers over here to kill people in a, "clean" fashion...so why are people upset when they attack any of our people within their reach?

Furthermore, I really don't understand why we expect a group of people we are at war with to behave as we behave, and have the same values as we have. It's almost comical to expect that.

They are in it to win, and winning doesn't involve compromising or playing what we consider, "fair."

Obama & Co. love to bomb people while counting anyone killed as an enemy combatant. It is a much more....what?...upscale and nice way to kill people? You know, blowing off arms, legs, or a head with a bomb is more user friendly than cutting of someone's head with a knife.

In the end, it is too bad any American is over there to be killed. But WTF is anyone thinking when they go over there? Seriously? Reporters seem to be coached, or have some disillusion that they are immune to being targeted, as if it is some God given right for them to flit around in a battle zone filming deaths and telling stories (often biased) while getting a free pass from the reality of the situation. :dunce:

Dude paid the ultimate price for wanting to get a story...then gets filmed saying his situation is America's
fault.

That is a lucid, intelligent, well thought-out objection.

Overruled!

Kill the ISIS army like the vermin they are.

It'll be harder to effectively kill it now because we missed the opportunity to inflict very numerous casualties while the group was moving across open desert and not expecting to be attacked from the air. But it still needs to be killed or at least beaten down to the greatest extent possible.

I also think it's wrong headed to think that if we weren't doing certain things we wouldn't have a problem with these people. Islam was founded by a Warlord who ordered his followers to conquer the rest of the world and force everybody to submit to Islam. And his followers have been attempting to do that to varying extents and with varying intensities for over 1300 years now. They're not going to stop and, ultimately, they are not going to be at peace with the idea that the entire world has not submitted to Islam. Not going to happen.

We could become totally isolationists tomorrow, withdraw our military from all foreign soil, and give up all of our international business interests. All that would mean is that people like those in ISIS would grow stronger and be at our doorstep telling us to submit or die some day. That'd be some time after they committed genocide against the Jews in Israel because we were no longer supporting them.

There you go again. Tax and spend. :ohno:

They are the only group that has the ability to wipe out ISIS with our help. The Iraqi Army is a shitshow in a can, and Assad already has his hands full.

Although I wonder how much bolder the Kurds will feel afterward as they continue their campaign for independence.

Yup. I'm not a war historian, but I'd have to believe Korea was the last conflict that had what we consider conventional warfare. Once folks around the world saw how we can't deal with a different kind of ugly war, it was over for conventional warfare, unless China or Russia decides to go at it with us.
Americans (and to a much lesser extent, America) have this sad, misguided notion that you can fight a war "honorably"...thus this little document called the Geneva Convention that was developed that laid out the "rules" for handling prisoners of war and civilians in war zones. Unfortunately, the concepts included in the Geneva Convention were almost immediately ignored by the rest of the world, and only followed by the U.S. (until recently). We can't fight wars with one hand tied behind our backs, and the enemy knows that.

Regarding ISIS:

How many of them are there that they can control so much land? Much of their heavy weapons have been acquired from fighting in Syria and Iraq. It doesn't sound like they would be proficient in the operation of much of this equipment. Supply lines are so critical. Are they really well structured to maintain supply lines needed hold the land they have claimed?

It's one thing to be a terrorist organization that has blended in with the population and be a big pain in the ass, but it's another to conquer such a vast amount of land and control it.
