There is a balance. Like I said before, if you're having hard times, go use welfare or unemployment insurance but you aren't supposed to game the system so that you are on it for too long. I understand economic hardships and such but the point remains, those that abuse the system far outnumber those that do not. I saw a stat from 2005 (outdated and prior to the crisis, I know) that stated about 16% of the population used welfare with only 4% being welfare dependent. I wonder what those numbers are now. Unemployment benefits have been reduced from the 99 weeks, that's a start.
60 months of welfare is a lot. The answer is education, IMO. Education can free you.

Btw, klean, there are countless posts of mine where I include corporate welfare as well as social welfare as major entitlement issues that must be reformed. You only focus on one.

I focus on both. But all I hear Repukes talk about is Scoial Welfare. Bu they don't know or care about the billions upon billions of dollars that the DOD waste year after year. Just look at the New Destroyer the U.S. Navy is bragging about. Look at the cost over-run on that project and get back to me later.

Answer the fucking question!
Dude, i'll help you out. I'll "answer" you a THIRD time. Corporate Welfare is as bad as Social Welfare when abused. I don't care if it's Boeing, Bank of America or Jermajesty Jackson. You hear republicans talk about it, that's great. I'm not a republican.

Re: Republicans to the Poor:
So Republicans are trying to balance the budget on the backs of the poor, the elderly, and children, refusing to restore cuts to SNAP - nutritional program that mostly helps women and children.
Great. Wall Street and Defense is raping the country, but try to give a starving kid another 25 bucks a month is bad.
This country is truly fucked in our priorities. If you think most of the working poor like it that way, and are happy on handouts, you are too fucking dumb to vote.

Re: Republicans to the Poor:
Why are we just paying people? That solves nothing. Republicans and Democrats, on this board and in Congress, are always saying you can't solve a problem by throwing money at it. But that is what is done with social welfare. They give money and expect nothing in return. Again...it's the abuse of social and corporate welfare that is the problem. Along with abuse is the inability of the Government to help people get off and stay off. Getting off and staying off welfare isn't just the Gov't's role (because they can help with job training) but it's societys role to hire these people, pay them a livable wage and help the generation or two that is coming of age to see that there is a better future. We have to stop subsidies for companies like Exxon, especially when they make the profits they do.dbackjon wrote:So Republicans are trying to balance the budget on the backs of the poor, the elderly, and children, refusing to restore cuts to SNAP - nutritional program that mostly helps women and children.

Agree, Jon, 100%.
Am inclined, though it would be painful, to just let the Conks have their way and implement the cuts. Then, watch how they manage the fallout. Picture Conks trying to help the poor who are now rioting.
Progressives don't just align with the poor to preserve food going to their children, but do so, also, as the last remaining wall between Conks and anarchy. Keep an eye on things once hungry people find the streets. Conks are a worldwide embarrassment.

Re: Republicans to the Poor:
No, your post is a gross generalization and a difference in idealogy. We are too polarized and it creates topics like this where you will say Republicans want to kill the poor and no amount of evidence can make you change your mind because you are conditioned to equate Evil with Republicanism. Republicans and Democrats have great ideas and HORRIBLE IDEAS. They have their equal share of good and bad leaders. People like me, who are truly in the middle, don't stand a chance.dbackjon wrote:And based on this thread, my first post is accurate

I can't be, I believe gays should have equal rights. Women should have the right to choice. People should have access to affordable health care, we should greatly reduce our military budget and spend more on Education and science research. I'm too eco-friendly.
