I take it you have never been on a project where a CM lets a contractor pick and choose which specs to follow (you know, the people side of engineering). It get's fun watching the CM trying to reel in the contractor after letting him slide on certain aspects of the project. Maybe someday you'll understand.
I do the construction management on most my projects, or at least as many hours we have in the contract. I review submittals for accuracy and guide the contractors when they need help. There's a ton of times I've allowed contractors to use alternative methods if they make a case for it, but there's no way to ensure they do everything by the books. A lot of these contractors are smarter than me so I try to learn from them if it makes sense to.

Ibanez, I want the PE because it'll help me get into other technical industries, even if I don't use it. I'm a LEED AP and ENV SP, so I've always wanted to get into the sustainability and environmental fields...perhaps at the EPA or USGBC or a non-profit. I don't want to get pigeon-holed in my line of work for too long.
Just curious, I saw increasing pushback from developers to build LEED certified buildings at the time I left the workforce. There was very little value in it in the private sector. Businesses looking for space just didn't care if the building was LEED certified or not. And they surely didn't want to pay the premium for it. What's the climate these days for LEED?

Before he answers, keep in mind that Trip is in the beltway and the federal government is in love with LEED, regardless of how much it costs you, the taxpayer. DC is not necessarily representative of the rest of the country.

My last pure construction gig was at NIST, and everything they did required LEED cert specs.

I kind of pray that Johnson wins 1 state, forces the election to go to the HoR and they choose Johnson as POTUS.

Johnson, on his most stoned day, would be better than Clinton or Trump.
I've thought a lot about this scenario.

The only way Johnson prevents either candidate from getting to 270 is if the race is a dead heat, but Johnson actually has to win a state or two. Possible, but not likely.

However, I think McMullen is going to carry Utah, so throw out those electoral votes.

Johnson might deny Clinton one or two states- not by winning them, but by throwing them to Trump.

If the election goes to the House I think it will go this way:

Clinton obviously is out.

House GOP running for reelection in the next cycle will want to go with someone vanilla, but someone who doesn't piss off the Trump/Tea Party voters too much.

That means this faction would push either Rubio or Ryan. They all hate Cruz.

The more "safe" seats could go in one or two directions- hard right (Cruz) or hard moderate (Kasich or Ryan).

In the end, I think it would go to Ryan. He is prominently positioned. His nomination wouldn't hurt too badly at the polls in the next cycle for house members. He's less moderate than Kasich. Most importantly, the messaging will be that after such a contentious election, we need a moderating force to bring us all back to earth. That, to me, means Ryan with Kasich as a possible sop to Democrats.

OR, if the House was REALLY serious about settling the dust....

President James Webb
Vice President Ryan

That's my fantasy ticket with no possibility of happening

Not sure how you can say that Ryan won't piss off the tea party/Trump types. They HATE him. He will never be president.

The deplorables will vote Republican, period. They may rabble-rouse for their chosen candidate during primary season, but in the end, they won't turn into a pussy/traitor and vote Libertarian or Democrat.

You guys have never daydreamed about winning the lottery? An election to the HoR would be almost as awesome and more likely. What could be more awesome than watching liberals and Trump voter heads exploding at the same time? I'd die laughing.

I've never done a LEED project (thus wanting to find a new job), but it's popular with state and federal work, private developers in the northeast and California, and parts of the northwest and southwest (where energy costs can be high). It really hasn't picked up steam in the deep south, southeast, or midwest.

Anywhere you go though, it's popular with large corporations, universities, and hospitals. The tech world in particularly is really into it, especially when it comes to data centers.

They are going to be pissed regardless because the House will not declare Trump president under any circumstances.

I'm talking about the choice that will piss off the Tea Party the LEAST while also choosing someone who will be level headed. I think the trade off there is Ryan. Another possibility there is Rubio but as far as the Trump voters go, he'll be a wash with Ryan. The House will pick someone who did not pick boogers like Rubio in the primaries and that means Ryan (pisses off TP) and Kasich (REALLY pisses off TP)

Remember- these congresscritters want to get re-elected, and in the changing voting landscape, Trump/Cruz/any other nut is not an option.

If Evan McMullin can win Utah and this thing actually goes the House (both scenarios which I don't think will happen), I think McMullin would be our next President.

Yes, I saw that a few minutes ago. Said something to the effect of, "most won't see the full price hike".

Seriously, CNN is creeping into 1984 territory anymore with all the spin and newspeak.

He said the win is watching it all go down. That part I agree would be a win.

At some point though, we need to get past the enjoyment of watching people we disagree with fail spectacularly and get back to all winning together spectacularly like we did two generations ago.

That bastion of conservative values, the New York Times, has cleared Trump of any direct ties to Russia:
Law enforcement officials say that none of the investigations so far have found any conclusive or direct link between Mr. Trump and the Russian government. And even the hacking into Democratic emails, F.B.I. and intelligence officials now believe, was aimed at disrupting the presidential election rather than electing Mr. Trump.

The House won't pick anyone who is actually running for president. Their pick would suck, but it would almost surely be better than the crook or the clown. We could go from the fire back to the frying pan, so in that way we win.

But in that case, half the country would feel they were ripped off when somebody from the other party is chosen. That's a really bad environment IMO.
