Super! I have a renter at my apartment who has repeatedly spoken in suppIort of Democrats and Obama (remarked she'd vote for him a third time if he could run again ).

Since you say it's ok, I'm heading over there this morning to serve her with a 30 day eviction notice.

I have rental applicants lined up around the block. With first and last monthly paid, I won't lose one cent.

Thanks Ibanez! I really shouldn't be required to rent to people I don't agree with.
Yeah, selling a book in a private store is equal to being a landlord. You hate free speech when it doesn't agree with your ideals. You aren't pissed with Hobby Lobby are you?

If you want to be a hateful dick, then by all means. However, you just admitted that you are kicking people out of there house due to their speech. That's a first amendment issue and you'd be taken to court and you'd lose. But go ahead, evict them.
A.D.D.much?

I didn't realize being a landlord wasn't a business!
Senegal made the he decision not to support either the product or customers he disagreed with. I have chosen to do the same.
Murder isn't free speech...I'm immensely grateful there are people like the Greens who understand that abortion is murder (and shut your mouth about RU486 being a contraceptive...it is an abortion device), and further, understand the moral duty to oppose and fight against murder of unborn children to their dying breath.

You may not have noticed, but "progressives" are not a protected class, and month to month tenancy renters have no property rights. There are no grounds for the tenant to sue.

I wish you had been there, Ibanez. When I handed her the eviction notice, her shock was beyond anything I had ever witnessed. I explained to her that she had been a good tenant, but that I simply disagreed with her political beliefs, and since this was my business, I could choose to discriminate based upon political bias. After she stopped shrieking and swinging at me, I reassured her it was o.k., that one of her fellow progressives reminded my that as a businessman I had the right to discriminate.
Hope you don't mind, but I gave her your number.

:thumb:

BTW, I'm a little puzzled by your hostile remarks. Are you angry at my decision to discriminate because in progressiveworld, landlords don't have the same rights as other businesses, or simply because conks can be called hateful dicks, whereas, donk businessmen who discriminate are just exercising their rights.

Doesn't the bookstore have to buy the books first, and then resell them for a profit? I don't think the government should be telling bookstores what books to purchase.

No.

A magical frog selects which books are purchased.

I do think the government should control what books are sold.

Ok, a magical frog selects the books, but the bookstore still has to buy them in order to sell them.

Hostile? Nope. ADD? Nope? You're the one that tried to equate a person's selling decision to housing discrimination. You're the one with the ridiculous notion that you would violate your contract with your tenant over her 1st Amendment right.

Face it, you lost this one.

I think Tman had a stroke. What's that phrase, " dazzle them bullshit." I used to work with a Marine Colonel that knew nothing about what we were doing, so he'd go on and on and on and on about something, try to correlate it to what were talking about in hopes that he sounded like he had a clue. It didn't work.

It's NOT discrimination if it's not a protected class--political persuasion isn't a protected class--yet. And he didn't violate the contract. She's on a month-to-month and he gave her 30 days notice. That's really not THAT hard to understand...

Honestly, his post was like JSOs, so I didn't read most of it. It's tedious. His first post, which I read, said nothing about that. So, I assumed he had a contract in place. And look a few pages back where I acknowledge that it isn't a protected class, however, i'm sure there's some law against arbitrary discrimination which is so vague that anything can be counted towards it.

But the underlying question, can he evict a good tenant for being a democrat? Probably. That makes him an asshole but hey, it's a free country. As long as the tenant maintains the property, isn't doing anything illegal and pays, who the fuck cares? And if my landlord was an uptight prick, then fuck him. I wouldn't want him to have my money.

Like I said before, people are always up in arms when some freedom is suppressed by an opposing political party (for instance.) but when it's someone of their own party doing it, they say nothing.

Jack Phillips is a baker who declined to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple because his Christian belief is that marriage exists only between a man and woman. Now a Colorado judge has ordered him to bake cakes for same-sex marriages, and if Phillips refuses, he could go to jail.
I didn't see him getting up in arms over this. Fucking hypocrite. Bet you all the money in your account, jack Phillips votes Republican.

This is a stupid "faux-troversy". Costco doesn't want to sell a book by a Conservative b/c the owner or whatever is a Democrat. Big fucking deal. It's his financial decision. Some Christian doesn't want to make cakes for a gay couple, big fucking deal. It's his decision. Both have the right to refuse service and promote any idea they wish to promote through their business. This is noise. A distraction.

One more time with emphasis: I ALREADY FUCKING SAID THAT. In fact, 3 times in this thread.

Goddamn...legal or not, it is discrimination. I should have said that at the beginning as I figured the legality of it would be focused on.

I did a quick review, the most recent case was brought up in LA. A guy was denied housing b/c he worked for the ACLU and the landlord said he wouldn't rent to someone that was with the ACLU. Was he discriminated against? Of course. Was it illegal? Nope. Is the landlord a dick for refusing a renter, possibly. I don't understand why any business owner would refuse a customer, or an employed tenant. Seems counter productive.

Maybe revolution isn't that far. We've had the rise of the Tea Party in 2009. We've had militia units in Nevada and now on the Borders. An ineffectual president. High unemployment. Rising costs, lower wages. Dogs and Cats, living amicably together. Homosexuals getting married. It's bound to happen.
Turns out I might be a little gay. 89Hen 11/7/17

Americans should have the right to shop or not shop wherever they want
Landlords should be able to rent or not rent to whomever they want.
