Seriously, if I want a police officer to arrest you for being stupid, can the officer arrest you? And what if you want the officer to arrest me for being smart...can the officer do that?
Of course not. They don't work for you or me.
The police work to enforce laws that...as others have pointed out...that the general public, of which you are part, have put in place.
Thus, we are back to my point that you conveniently didn't address in your response. Don't like the laws or the police officers behavior? Change the laws or challenge the behavior formally through the system in which YOU, as a citizen of the country, state, town, live.
It really is that simple.
Unfortunately, we have a bunch of preschool-minded hippies, with no patience and no common sense, that don't want to engage in a respectful conversation about such things. They'd rather go perch somewhere, usually without a permit, to interfere with the rest of society's daily lives (as boring and/or capitalistic as that can be), in order to call attention to their, "life's not fair" plight of the week. They look for a confrontation, get one, and then complain that they were confronted.
Watch the video. A bunch of big, bad, hippie clowns (most of whom would get their asses kicked in by anyone who eats meat or played on any youth athletic team) calling the park police a bunch of names and trying to goad them into action. One lady is screaming, "you're choking/hurting her", when clearly the lady in custody is still screaming (not being choked) and kicking the officers (and the officers were NOT hurting her - except for the uncomfortable position of being put into handcuffs while resisting arrest - and they repeatedly asked her to stop kicking them).
Pathetic.
Most of them probably didn't bother to vote...and those that did voted for Obama - the very leader whose actions got them to protest in the park in the first place. Straight up karma.
Go to your protest, enjoy the air, get your views out in the open, and then go home and organize and that bunch of people to contact your local political leader and work to change the laws. Otherwise, I have no sympathy for people who intentionally and disingenuously set themselves, and others, up for a confrontation under the guise that they are just nice people there to be "peaceful." Bullshvt.
