POS Alert- Seattle

Officers hurt, 17 arrested in clash at May Day rally in Seattle

SEATTLE (Reuters) - Seattle police said on Thursday they would form a task force to investigate any crimes committed during a violent May Day rally which saw eight police officers injured and 17 protesters arrested.

Protesters and police had exchanged a chaotic barrage of rocks, bottles and pepper spray grenades on Wednesday. It was the second year in a row that a rally on May Day had turned violent.

Demonstrators threw large rocks at police, smashed store and car windows, overturned trash cans and lined up newspaper display racks to block streets, police said.

Those arrested so far face charges including property destruction and assault, said police, who reduced the number of arrests to 17 from an earlier tally of 18.

The eight officers who were hurt suffered only scrapes and bruises, police officials said, although a policewoman was hit in the knee by a large chunk of asphalt.

A woman driving by the protest was treated for cuts after a protester threw a glass bottle at her car and shattered her window, police said............"

Well, this one was mostly a bunch of young, white left wing anarchists. It got a lot more coverage than the violence that broke out at the Black College Beach week in VA Beach last week. All the major networks covered it, CNN, Fox, etc.

The Seattle PD were better prepared and used more force than the VA Beach PD. The police were in riot gear with batons. Noticed the use of the flash bangs in the video, and the yahoo article said pepper spray grenades were used.

I wish they had done more- horses, CS (tear) gas (don't know if was used or not), rubber bullets, the whole 9 yards.

People should be allowed to peacefully protest. But blocking streets, blocking sidewalks, vandalizing downtown buildings, breaking store windows, breaking car windows, throwing stuff at passing motorists, throwing rocks at the police, that stuff shouldn't be tolerated and should be met with an iron fist response.

1). Kudos for correctly labeling them as anarchists rather than hippies.

2). WC(b) law enforcement FTW!

Seattle's a gloomy place, I think. I've only been to that area for conferences twice. Once Tacoma. Once Seattle. Both times it just felt...well...depressing. I did go to Mount Rainier National Park both times and I really liked that. The first time was much better because it was clear and you could see the main attraction. Second time was OK. The forest still looked good but it was all foggy and misty so you couldn't see the Mount Rainier at all.

Anyway I think I'd go loopy too if I had to be up there hundreds of days per year.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

330 days of rain a year.
Highest suicide rate in the nation.

Coincidence? I think not...
