Youngstown gets obliterated, Illinois State get shut out at home. Were people to quick to dub the MVFC as being totally awesome because of wins over bad FBS teams? No smack intended, just an honest question.

YSU gets taken out by the team that likely will not lose a game the entire season and could do that to any team in the nation....seriously, they are on a whole different level right now.

SIU is better than they are given credit for....

We play at Iowa State so it's going to have to be a pretty good chunk of change to get us out there, but I could see it.

With the bracketbuster hype that the teams got from that game (and the experience that all ODU fans had in CF, sounded very positive from all I read) and the great experience on the return I fully expect some sort of mutual "We'll call you and you call us for something" type set up

I'll grant YSU an off week. That's allowed when you're playing the #1 team in the country on most people's polls (including that dummy SH's). Sure I would have liked to have seen YSU win. But we'll just see how well they can rebound next week. That'll be the true sign that they've arrived. Do they take the beatdown like men and continue to march, or do they up and quit? My guess is the former....

YSU is still one of the better teams in the country this year. When playing really good teams, anybody is capable of getting blown out. I wouldn't read too terribly much into their loss at NDSU today. Shit happens sometimes. And UNI, despite their record because of the difficult schedule, is a very good team as well. Illinois State is a top 15-20 type team, and SDSU, Ind St, and SIU are all pretty good teams as well.

If UNI runs the table and finishes 7-4 IMO, they are in the playoffs. A lot of season left but I think they run the table.

The results of yesterday don't directly inform on that issue because they were conference games and they were just beating each other. To me you have to look at non conference games. Southern Illinois beating Illinois State does say a little bit because Southern Illinois was soundly beaten by Eastern Illinois of the OVC. But then again Illinois State played Eastern Illinois and won.

You could spend a lot of time looking at who beat who and by how much but there's really no reason to because, once Sagarin's ratings are "connected," you'll be looking at the results of a system that does that in a manner more comprehensive than you could ever accomplish qualitatively. As of last week a statement near the end of the explanation at the top of the ratings still read, "The teams are NOT WELL-CONNECTED and so all three ratings are BAYESIAN." When that statement gets replaced by "The teams are now WELL CONNECTED and so all three ratings are UNBIASED" you will know that you're looking at an objective assessment of how everybody's done in terms of who they beat and lost to and by how much. My guess it's still going to suggest that the MVC is the toughest conference in terms of the "average" strength of its teams.

How did your Youngstown/Bison prediction turn out?

I wasn't the only one who was wrong. So sue me. I went with a team that improved over last year's team that beat NDSU to beat a NDSU team that isn't all that much better than last year's team. Rest assured, that was the last loseable game on their schedule, IMO.
