Prior to Western Carolina: Played quarterback before switching to defense as a prep ... Was a nationally-ranked long snapper in high school ... Missed his senior in high school due to a knee injury.

Lettered three times in football at Shaker Heights High School... earned All-Lake Erie League and All-District... named the team MVP on defense... also participated in boxing at the Junior Olympics level.
