Social Security Administration.

Post by Ibanez »

This should not shock anyone.

The Social Security inspector general estimates that the agency has made $40.3 million in erroneous payments to deceased beneficiaries -- even though the administration had already recorded their deaths in its records. The estimate is based on a sample tested during its most recent audit in January 2008, the watchdog agency said.
If ran like a business, this wouldn't happen. How do you continously make these multi-million(billion?) dollar mistakes?

You're right - no business ever does anything like that:

nope. never.

I'm not saying this isn't bad news. It is. However, when you consider the billions sent out by SSA each year - it's actually a pretty small number. The fact that they pursued and found it - that's a good thing. I hope they prosecute the people cashing those checks too.

Excuse me, a LAW-ABDING business. Of course there are cheats and crooks. THe point is, that the SSA knows of the problem, has known before this 2008 report and what have they done to fix it? It's like the IRS and thier failure to collect taxes.

If ran like a business the 40 million would be paid out as bonuses. :coffee:

But at least the entry and mid level SSA jobs would be outsourced to India, saving the taxpayers some dough.

And yet when the SSA declared my mother dead (She was extremely alive at the time!) it took 2 US Senators and 2 US Congressmen and 6 months to have her reinstated amongst the living. No explanation or apology was ever offered for their original declaration. Your government at work!
