Big South TEs 2011

Post by bjtheflamesfan »

This is probably the toughest position to preview because most teams use the TE as a 6th blocker and not necessarily as an extra skill position player. But I am gonna do my best to look at the position

Tight Ends

Charleston Southern
Mike DeTerlizzi 1 Rec 1 Yd 0 TD
Carson Leshin no 2010 Stats (transfer from Antelope Valley College)

Coastal Carolina
David Duran 34 Rec 472 Yds 2 TD
Jamie Childers 19 Rec 218 Yds 1 TD

Gardner-Webb
James "Pork Chop" Dugas 3 Rec 53 Yds 1 TD
Kyle Hoffner no 2010 Stats

Liberty
Tommy Shaver 8 Rec 104 Yds 0 TD
Steven Wilkes no 2010 Stats

Presbyterian
Joey Gilkey 1 Rec 1 Yd 0 TD
Clint Carpenter no 2010 Stats (Redshirt)

Stony Brook
Brett Arce 6 Rec 73 Yards 0 TD
Chris Fenelon 2 Rec 27 Yds 1 TD

VMI
Mario Thompson 3 Rec 33 Yds 0 TD
Robbie White 1 Rec 1 Yd 0 TD

Probably the most productive of the TEs on this list is Duran from CCU. Liberty fans are all too familiar with him after the game in Conway last year. He'll probably be the first team TE when preseason teams are named next month at Big South Media Day. Shaver could make a play for All conference with MIller from GWU graduating.

Ranking the TEs looks like this:

1. CCU
2. Liberty
3. Stony Brook
4. Gardner-Webb
5. VMI
6. Presbyterian
7. Charleston Southern

Football season isn't coming quick enough! This is the first list I've seen (since last years Big South final standings) that has CCU first in something!

I dont think any of the Big South Teams really use their TE's as an offensive weapon. One of these seasons we will see a big fast one come along with good hands and terrorize defensive backs. Like 6'4 or 6'5 with 4.4 speed .
