The funniest thing about this is that this document has no legal standing in Hawaii whatsoever, but whatever.

Ya gotta give credit to Obama for still knowing how to run a campaign. He straight up waited until someone made this a ridiculous issue ahead of the 2012 campaign, and then made a complete fool out of this potential opponent. Now Trump sits there looking like a complete idiot and a liar for saying he had discovered something. You may not agree with Obama's presidency, but the dude knows how to get elected.

:ohno: Too soon. There was still plenty of fun to be had with the subject - the WH must be warier of Trump than they're letting on.

I disagree - Trump always was a sideshow... this was POTUS reminding his potential opponents that he's often three moves ahead. Smacking this yutz on the nose with a rolled up newspaper now makes good sense in that regard.

Hawaii State Law and Policy recognizes the Certification of Live Birth (aka "short form"), and the Certification of Live Birth only, as the means in which the state recognizes that someone was born there. It's just how they do business. If someone in Hawaii wants to get a passport, drivers license, etc. -- they show their Certification of Live Birth.

The Certificate of Live Birth (aka "long form" or "birth certificate") is not available for anyone to get in Hawaii due to Health Department policy. The document is stored somewhere in a filing cabinet, essentially. It has no legal standing in Hawaii because very few people in Hawaii have one. If someone took a "long form" to a Hawaii DMV, they'd be turned away and told to bring a "short form". It's just how things are done there. The President had to basically ask, and was then granted, an exception to the Hawaii Health Department's policy just to get his hands on his "long form".

Quite the contrary. Trump got Obama to respond, and that empowers Trump. The smart move for Obama would have been not to respond. If you think someone is not to be taken seriously, and doesn't justify a response, then you don't justify them by giving a response.

I don't this tactic works with politics because people who clearly shouldn't be taken seriously end up being taken seriously and getting elected. There's been many leaders in history that should've never been taken seriously and end up ruling empires. Trump's "issues" with Obama were beginning to gain traction and while he'll still get supporters, nipping this issue at the bud probably cost Trump voters. Regardless of how empowered Trump now feels, everything he says from here on end will be questioned for its legitimacy.

:rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

Are you serious? Trump? Trump looked like an idiot LONG before the WH released the long form.

The reason they released it when they did was because REAL opponents in the GOP were getting ready to start defending Obama on it. If anything, the Obamabots were disappointed that all they could reel in was a nut like Trump.

It is a sad state of affairs when the Messiah of HopenChange has to play this game for the sympathy vote. Sure as hell can't run on his record.

Really?

You don't run a smart campaign by pissing off, lying to and about your biggest allies.

Chronicle responds after Obama Administration punishes reporter for using multimedia, then claims they didn't

"Update: In a pants-on-fire moment, the White House press office today denied anyone there had issued threats to remove Carla Marinucci and possibly other Hearst reporters from the press pool covering the President in the Bay Area.

Chronicle editor Ward Bushee called the press office on its fib:

Sadly, we expected the White House to respond in this manner based on our experiences yesterday. It is not a truthful response. It follows a day of off-the-record exchanges with key people in the White House communications office who told us they would remove our reporter, then threatened retaliation to Chronicle and Hearst reporters if we reported on the ban, and then recanted to say our reporter might not be removed after all.

The Chronicle's report is accurate.

If the White House has indeed decided not to ban our reporter, we would like an on-the-record notice that she will remain the San Francisco print pool reporter.

I was on some of those calls and can confirm Ward's statement.

Messy ball now firmly in White House court.
-----

The hip, transparent and social media-loving Obama administration is showing its analog roots. And maybe even some hypocrisy highlights."

It's not like the Chronicle is going to support anyone else but Obama, but this does send a ominous message to the rest of the press.

Why isn't it good for the donks to have the honks making fools of themselves for as long as possible? The birthers are never going to believe that Obama was born here no matter who tells them differently, and they'll regard with suspicion anybody who does. Wouldn't it take some of the base's excitement away from the mainstream Republican candidiate who tells them what they don't want to hear?

I don't know how you can conclude that if you watched the "event", but we'll know shortly if you are correct or not. I think Trump was diminished by the release of the long form, but I also think it would be to the donks favor to have Trump in the honk campaign for as long as possible to diminish by association the credibility of the honks. And with the importance of the foaming-mouthed to honk primaries they might even actually nominate the Donald.

Now in the Rasmussen taken Tues, the 26th, the day BEFORE BHO released a copy of his long form, Trump led in the GOP primary poll.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_ ... uckabee_15" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Now Trump came out (which was reported in all the media outlets) taking credit for getting Obama to release a copy of the long form. Whether or not you think this is ridiculous, thats his spin:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20110427/pl ... 0427145116" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Now I'm the only one on here who's said that Obama releasing a copy of his long form doesn't hurt Trump. Everyone lese has said the opposite. Sure, I could be wrong. Well see when the next poll comes out if my theory that Trump isn't hurt by this holds true.

I really don't see why any of this matters in the end.

Trump is even LESS of a serious GOP candidate than Sarah Palin. In fact, anyone who knows ANYTHING about Trump knows that he is a serious opponent of individual property rights. He practically wrote the book on manipulating (read: paying off) government officials to have large swaths of property condemned under imminent domain to make way for his pet projects, usually casinos. His history on property rights alone will depth charge any atempt to win a GOP nomination.

The guy is absolutely un-electable as a Republican and will not even be able to sniff at the nomination. The GOP isn't even bothering to discredit him right now because he is that much of a joke. Funny sideshow, nothing more.

I agree that Trump has close to zero chance of winning the Republican nomination. I just think BHO releasing a copy of his long form isn't going to drop Trump any lower than he otherwise would have been, and may actually slightly help him. If he runs and finishes 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, whatever in the Republican primaries, BHO not leasing a copy of the long form Trump still likely finishes 4th, 5th, 6th, whatever.
