Rumor is that there has been some interest from the Dolphins as well. Mayo also worked out at the UVA pro day and the Hampton pro day. While the Old Dominion Monarchs scrapped practice in this harsh, hard, cold weather and switched today's workout to Sunday, Deron Mayo didn't have that luxury.
Mayo, a 5-foot-10 1/2, 230-pounder who is projected to play linebacker, is trying to catch the attention of the NFL, and a scout for the Philadelphia Eagles rolled into Norfolk to take a look.
Here's a little background on this situation: Mayo's room is painted green and white and he owns a No. 20 Brian Dawkins jersey.
"I was already excited, but I was more excited because they are my favorite team," Mayo said.
In this yucky rainstorm, he ran cover drops, back-pedaled, got off the line and out of his three-point stance as fast as he could. There were drills in hipwork and footwork and he was tested to see how good his hands are ... in the rain.
"Teams play in this stuff, so why not work out in it," Mayo said.
And he ran a 40-yard dash in this miserable muck.
He ran it in 4.55 seconds.
"I felt I needed to get a time on the board, even if my hamstring didn't feel 100 percent," Mayo said. "I can do better."
Next up? That's a great question and it looks like the Seattle Seahawks are paying attention and could be the next in line.
Here's a recap from when he worked out at UVA...
