2011 Southern Utah Football Schedule

Post by SUUTbird »

Looks like a great schedule, for the first time in a long while the slate for SUU is made up entirely of D1 opponents which gives us a much better chance at possibly getting an at large berth into the playoffs. With the talent returning this year I dont find it hard to believe we have a very good shot at winning it this year as well. Another thing worth mentioning we have 6, count them 6 Big Sky opponents on our schedule this year, will be a good time to show what we can do against our future conference members, especially excited for the October 22nd date, to bad I will be in basic training :thumb:.

If this is 7-4...
Losses
-9-24 At UNLV Las Vegas, Nev. TBA
-11-12 At Northern Iowa Cedar Falls, Iowa 6:00
-11-19 At Northern Arizona Flagstaff, Ariz. TBA
-10-22 At Weber State Ogden, Utah TBA

Wins
-9-3 At South Dakota State Brookings, S.D. TBA
-9-10 Sacramento State Cedar City, Utah 1:00
-9-17 UT San Antonio Cedar City, Utah 6:00
-10-1 North Dakota* Cedar City, Utah 1:00
-10-8 At South Dakota* Vermillion, S.D. TBA
-10-15 At Cal Poly* San Luis Obispo, Calif. TBA
-10-29 UC Davis* Cedar City, Utah 1:00

I'm not sure that would necessarily be "in business".

SUU was a very good team in 2010 and I expect them to be even better in 2011. SUU got Cal Poly at home in what was Cal Poly's 5th straight road game in 2010. I was worried about that game the minute the schedule was released. I am very glad Cal Poly get SUU in SLO in 2011. Should be another great game.

SUU may have been the best 5-5 (against DI competition) team in the history of the sport the way people talk about them on here. If .500 is now considered to be a "very good team" then the Lake Woebegone Effect is in full force - nobody is bad, just all degrees of good. They might have to cancel classes if they get to 7 wins - the euphoria would be overwhelming.

Of the 5 losses two were to FBS teams, one against a ranked Cal Poly team and one was a 7 point loss on the road to the FCS 2010/11 National Champions Eastern Washington. UD knows about losing to EWU. Replace South Dakota State and Duquesne with two FBS teams and UD would have been a 6-4 (against DI competition) team. They would have not made the playoffs. I am just saying....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Hey SuperHortnet I think Sac will at least 2 games next year. You shouldn't be so hard on your Hornets.

That's my prediction for that outrageous SUU schedule. They'll beat the newcomers, and that's about it.

It is a tough schedule but I think they will win more than they lose. They are capable of beating any team on their schedule.

I'd really like to see SUU finally turn the corner that Sac always seems to be on the precipice of doing but never follows through. :thumb:

One of their losses won't be Weber. I'll take SUU by 10 in that one. Their QB Sorensen is the real deal.

Sac is turning the corner too. I think they will get there. Sperbeck has them headed in the right direction.

Agreed, but they take long, slow, wide turns. Still have yet to see them get to the magic 7 wins group.

Then you haven't been paying attention, SE. Sac was 7-4 in Y2K.

Exactly. I've been following FCS football since 2004. :coffee:

Even so, 10 years is a fairly long time to not reach 7 wins.

2001: 2-9
2002: 5-7
2003: 2-9
2004: 3-8
2005: 2-9
2006: 4-7
2007: 3-8
2008: 6-6
2009: 5-6
2010: 6-5

Far better than their record against Montana;

0-16

they probably hate us more.

Northeastern beat UD in 2003, I guess they were better than all the playoff teams the Hens beat that year and UD's championship should have had an *.

Im just glad that SUU and WSU will be playing each other every year now, and that soon it will be a conference game. Its always a good game and I can see a very good rivalry building.
