BOONE — Very few quarterbacks would walk outdoors on a playoff morning, see the snow and smile.
Appalachian State’s DeAndre Presley smiled.
He is a rare bird from Tampa, a junior quarterback with a quick mind, fast tongue and faster legs. During the Mountaineers’ 42-14 victory over Western Illinois yesterday, Presley’s legs churned like the cartoon Road Runner in black tights, slicing through the defense for an 89-yard touchdown and a 54-yard escapade that set up another score.
“It was fun,” Presley said. “The reason it was fun — one — was that I got to play in snow. I’ve always dreamed of playing in light snow.”
Reason No. 2: Brad Glenn, the quarterbacks coach with a full grasp of the offensive plan, asked Presley Thursday if he could get 175 yards rushing. “My response was: ‘I can get 200 if you let me,’ ” Presley said.
