Cindy McCain splits from husband on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
Cindy McCain is advocating the repeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy – putting her at very public odds with her husband on the controversial issue.
She’s appearing in a new video geared toward eradicating the bullying of gay youth, produced by the California-based organization “NOH8.”
“Our political and religious leaders tell LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender] youth that they have no future," McCain says in the ad. “They can't serve our country openly.”
As other celebrities in the video suggest that the policy emboldens bullies, McCain says “Our government treats the LGBT community like second-class citizens - why shouldn't they?”

I agree. Let the gay troops serve openly, and send them after Bin Laden. The war will be over next week!AZGrizFan wrote:Good for her.

Why is this news? There are PLENTY of couples in this country who disagree over politics. Heck, there are a couple of pundits on opposite sides of the aisle who are married to each other.
Not news, IMO.

I think the repeal is coming, even though the court has ruled it can stay in place for now.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/11/12/scotus ... tml?hpt=T2
I think they will and should repeal it, they just need to come up with a game plan and policies for it and plan it out. It isn't as simple as ripping off a band-aid with the state of the world as it is. This is where leadership should come into play but really isn't.

Re: Cindy McCain splits from husband on "Don't Ask, Don't Te
What's really funny about the whole debate is that when Clinton got it enacted, the libs were all for it because it allowed gays to join, serve, and continue to serve so long as they were in the closet, but conservatives were all up in arms for the same reasons. Now the tables have turned, and it's the conservatives want to keep it and the libs want to dump it. Heck, under the old system, recruiters were flat out REQUIRED to ask if a prospective member was gay or had gay tendencies with a view to weed them out at the door. I have a hard time seeing how the old system would be better for gays.

I think Gays in Military could come in handy.

No disrespect, Horny, kinda superficial. The original DADT was meant to be a stepping stone to eventual free and open service. These things take time to get past the granite brains of Conks and other haters.

Not to discount the overall message of the video, but the claim that there are over 30,000 LGTB (teen?) suicides a year can't be right.

1) Who the hell is Cindy McCain..?
2) and why would anybody give a rats ass what she thinks..?

Maybe, maybe not, Joe. What's more to the point, though, is if all of said suicides are related to their orientation. There are many teen suicides over simple bullying and relationship issues (which may or may not be related to a significant other). Just quoting that figure leaves a lot out and implies much that can't be justified by the figure alone.JoltinJoe wrote:Not to discount the overall message of the video, but the claim that there are over 30,000 LGTB (teen?) suicides a year can't be right.

1. was made clear by the first sentence of the thread-opening post.Chizzang wrote:I've only got 2 questions:

2. is something else entirely.

I sincerely doubt that there over 30,000 teen suicides in the US per year -- no matter what the cause. If there are that many teens committing suicide, something has gone horrifically wrong in this country.SuperHornet wrote:Maybe, maybe not, Joe.
