Friggin Drama Queens.
I wonder if the WCC then adds Denver as well to get to 10.

Jon: I'm not sure what Denver adds outside of being a travel partner for BYU. As much as it pains me, I suspect that they'll finally cave and send an invite to Stockton.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Re: BYU going Independant/WCC
The WAC is dead. Utah State will join the Mountain West, Hawai'i will go Independent, and LaTech will replace Houston in C-USA once the Mountain West adds them (or just goes to the Sun Belt or Independent).
Mixed feelings all around about this.

Would the WCC ever add a admittedly private but very secular UOP?

Re: BYU going Independant/WCC
Currently, the largest enrollment for any WCC school is 8K students at Loyola Marymount. BYU has an enrollment of 33K...
Currently, the largest basketball arena by far is Gonzaga with a capacity of 6K. BYU has a capacity of 22K...
Seems like a perfect fit..

Wonder where Hawaii will go for non-football sports if the WCC won't have them?

Big West is a better fit for Hawaii non-football sportsT-Dog wrote:Wonder where Hawaii will go for non-football sports if the WCC won't have them?

In a heart beat. They tried adding them in 2008 but UOP rejected. The addition of BYU may change a lot of minds in Stockton.frinq wrote:Would the WCC ever add a admittedly private but very secular UOP?

The WAC isn't finished yet, though perhaps crippled. They should at least be able to nab Texas State & UTSA when they move up.
As for BYU…
As for BYU…
- Funny stat:
BYU enrollment - 32,955
Entire WCC enrollment - 54,869
BYU is 3.5 times the size of the largest WCC school (Loyola Marymount) and a whopping 10 times the size of the smallest (U Portland).

byu is also probably the only school with cheap tuition being under 4k a yr which i assume is unusual for a private.Mvemjsunpx wrote:The WAC isn't finished yet, though perhaps crippled. They should at least be able to nab Texas State & UTSA when they move up.

Unless you are not LDS, then it is almost $10 grand a year - which is still cheap for a private school.weberwildcat wrote:byu is also probably the only school with cheap tuition being under 4k a yr which i assume is unusual for a private.Mvemjsunpx wrote:The WAC isn't finished yet, though perhaps crippled. Has the Big West been open to that. I would think those schools would be hard pressed to commit the funds to fly their teams to Hawaii.dbackjon wrote:Big West is a better fit for Hawaii non-football sportsT-Dog wrote:Wonder where Hawaii will go for non-football sports if the WCC won't have them?

I agree. The WAC will need to figure something out and fast, otherwise they are done.Mvemjsunpx wrote:The WAC isn't finished yet, though perhaps crippled. They should at least be able to nab Texas State & UTSA when they move up.

Re: BYU going Independant/WCC
BYU will not do anything that makes it look as a inferior choice to the Utes. Utah's football roster is loaded with LDS kids too. Big Conference or independent. Remember the Church dropped plural marriage to become a state; they will drop the Sunday ban before they become a non-factor in regional recruiting.

That is the question. How many home games for non-revenue sports would HI want?SDHornet wrote:Has the Big West been open to that. I would think those schools would be hard pressed to commit the funds to fly their teams to Hawaii.dbackjon wrote:

So BYU is admitting to being less a small mid major that doesn't matter at all in every sport except football?

what? they are very proud of their lone NCAA tournament in the last 20 years in basketball.UNI31f wrote:So BYU is admitting to being less a small mid major that doesn't matter at all in every sport except football?
the mtn west never was more successful in either sport than the wac so they dont see wcc as a downgrade. they should drop all sports though.

First they work together on Prop H8, now this. What is next, an alliance with Baylor? We could call it the Intolerance League.JALMOND wrote:Catholics and Mormons in the same basketball conference? What is the world coming to?![]()

Re: BYU going Independant/WCC
I don't know what you mean by "very" secular, frinq. Admittedly, I questioned the previous school chaplain, who was pantheistic and animistic, but for most of the school's existence, UOP was affiliated with the United Methodist Church and still honors Methodist academic schollies. They still have a small religion department (albeit quite liberal), though it was recently moved across campus from the chapel complex. The chapel is still a major fixture on campus for worship services, weddings, and cultural events. If you remember earlier this year when I mentioned the recorder concert, THAT was held in the chapel. UOP could easily re-initiate the Methodist relationship if required for admission to the WCC.frinq wrote:Would the WCC ever add a admittedly private but very secular UOP?
