So the White team beat the Green team 14-13 in the spring game culminating practice for Portland State today at Hillsboro Stadium. Nothing too outstanding, Justin Engstrom had a good game throwing to Justin Monahan, a transfer from Whitworth College. Raymond Fry showed some good plays on offense and Ryan Rau came through on the defense. No major injuries to speak of, in fact the only person who was somewhat slow to get up after a play was Cameron Hein on the next to last play of the game (still Hein ran off the field). The officials did not allow any contact on the quarterbacks, which kept Kavanaugh in check (it will be interesting to see how he does in a real game). Four players who I wanted to see, Drew Hubel (last years starting QB until he was injured), Cory McCaffrey (switching over to running back where he led the state in rushing his senior year of HS), Willie Griffin (transfer from U of Washington and played for the Huskies last year), and Julius Thomas (played basketball for Portland State the last four years, has not played football since HS) all were kept out due to various types of injuries.
Other items I found out, particularly about the stadium...
1. No plans for additional bleachers on the east side of the stadium on the softball fields (not even for the Montana game).
2. Parking lots will be open 3 hours before kickoff and tailgating will be allowed, however no alcohol is allowed. Parking will cost $8 per vehicle (but it is worth it, in my opinion, a long walk otherwise).
3. A beer garden is available and will be open during the game inside on the concourse. However, the concession stands will not offer alcohol.
4. The Idaho State, Montana, and Eastern Washington games will begin at 6 pm Pacific Time. The Northern Colorado game will begin at 1 pm Pacific Time.
5. Most seats for the Montana game will be priced at a higher level than the other games.
6. Reserved seating only is under the cover. General Admission is in the end zones only. The seating in the south endzone has been added since 2000 (for those who were here back then).
7. Currently there are no plans for shuttle service from downtown Portland or the PSU campus. Also, keep in mind that it is about a 4 mile walk to the nearest MAX station. Hillsboro Stadium is about 12 miles west of downtown Portland.
8. Those planning on attending from out of town, I advise you to look up hotels and motels in the Hillsboro/Beaverton area and not in Portland. There are many to choose from that may not show up under Portland and that may be closer to the stadium than ones in Portland.
