White Males that have achieved some financial success typically HATE this topic...
Because (to a degree) it lessens their argument (their favorite argument) that they worked their way up
grinding and clawing through the difficult system of labyrinth and trap doors
fighting to the top...
Blah blah
When the secret is out that quite a bit of it was simply showing up
and being relatively creative
and marginally bright
and white
it hurts their feelings

It isnt a leap in logic- most folks dont need their hands held through a lengthy explanation...... I am assuming your intelligence rather than insulting it.Skjellyfetti wrote:PSSSST. THERE'S A HUGE LEAP IN LOGIC HERE... OR YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT ERGO MEANS.CID1990 wrote:No, you dont like it because you cannot comprehend it.
And you cant get your mind around the concept that you might be a bigot.
Being white or straight has nothing to do with whether you would support gay marriage or not.
And, you make it sound as though blacks, women, and gays have played no role at all in their own struggle for equality. I'm not saying there have been no straight white men that have fought for equality over the years. But, the establishment whites have NOT ceded power willingly in any of the above cases... and it took years of struggle to loosen their grasp.CID1990 wrote:ERGO, it has been straight white males who ultimately facilitated emancipation, universal suffrage, and eventually, gay marriage.
White people didn't simply "hand" them equality...
And I never said that the establishment ceded power willingly.... in fact, there was no power to cede, especially if I am correct in my assumption that you would claim that white males are still in power today in spite of emancipation, universal suffrage, etc etc etc. Things shifted because attitudes changed over time (partially because the aggrieved groups agitated for change, but also simply because those with the ability to change things realized that the change would not bring the end of the world, but WOULD create new voters), and these issues stopped being things you would lose elections over simply because the other side could demagogue you over it.
Plenty of white males support gay marriage. An even larger group simply doesn't care. Ive been on record as one of the supporters for as long as it has been an issue. But if you and Jon want to lump us all together then you're no different from what you show so much hostility towards.
And while we are talking about gay rights and how straight white males are de debbil, guess what demographic is monolithic in opposition to gay marriage? Hint: it ain't white males. Remember Prop 8 in California?
edit: BTW all of this would be moot, and you would have had the ability to marry YEARS ago if the government wasn't involved in the marriage business to begin with... and yeah, I would readily give up the married tax credits. Marriage is so socially engineered in this country that you don't even realize that you're not arguing for the right to be recognized as married, you're arguing for the right to access to benefits (as you should). As for the other bennies Jon mentioned, such as estate issues, those would also be moot.

Only blunt objects work in here
hmmm...
I'll give you a pass on this one - and I'm not sure why
I think you might be channeling Rush or Hannity right now
I believe those guys (Rush and Hannity) are used as tools to stir up the craziest segments of society and then after the dust settles the regular old trickle down Republicanisms don't seem so brutal
I think you're doing that here on this thread
If I'm channeling Rush then I'm being subtle
Your channeling of Rand Paul is not subtle at all- you're full on capital "L" Libertarian in this thread
