I live within the Intermountain West Bible Belt, and something I am beginning to notice..

People are starting to cringe and roll their eyes when someone introduces themselves as a 'Christian" or says "we're Christians."

Food for thought.

My responses of "So what" and/or "Who gives a fuck" fall firmly into that category so I approve of the move.

Anybody that automatically tries to set up some boundaries like that when they first meet ya oughta know where you stand as well.

More often than not, what they are really saying is that they are hypocrites. That isn't to say that I think all Christians are hypocrites, but the ones who go out of their way to tell you about it are suspect in my mind. I'd rather that they just keep their mouth shut and lead by example.

What is your point? Everyone is a hypocrite regardless of religion. Atheists are hypocrites. That doesn't mean Christians are bad people.

From what I've read on the subject, Hitler's plan was to use the Christians, I don't think he was a practicing Christian. Remember Jim Jones was a faithful member of the Democratic Party. Doesn't make all Democrats bad.

Never said anything about all Christians being bad because Hitler was or anything remotely close to that. I was just correcting nativist's belief that Hitler had no religion.

Not sure what Jim Jones has to do with anything.......

This is quite possibly the greatest poli thread ever.

It's got ripped off tits, Nancy Reagan's beaver, theists, atheists, hitler, sharia law, an Ursus-Bluehen86 mutual love fest, and a classic heartfelt Native homily. :thumb:

It's also pretty much a non-issue to occupy political nerds while congress is out of session. Muslims have a right to build the center near ground zero, it's offensive to some, and they have right to bitch about it.

No better example and message to the world that we're still the greatest nation than to allow that mosque to be built.

That's a great cop-out. That way you can brush off Christians who do fucked up shit in the name of Christ. The Inquisitors weren't really Catholic! They didn't spiritually live their lives like a Catholic! The Crusaders weren't really Catholic! They didn't spiritually live their lives like a Catholic! The Conquistadors weren't really Catholic! They didn't spiritually live their lives like a Catholic! The pederast Catholic priests weren't really Catholic. They didn't spiritually live their lives like a Catholic. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Bullshit. Hitler was a Christian and a member of the Catholic Church until his death. He hated atheists. Try again.
The National Government will regard it as its first and foremost duty to revive in the nation the spirit of unity and co-operation. It will preserve and defend those basic principles on which our nation has been built. It regards Christianity as the foundation of our national morality, and the family as the basis of national life.
What we must fight for is to safeguard the existence and the reproduction of our race...so that our people may mature for the fulfillment of the mission allotted it by the creator of the universe...Peoples that bastardize themselves, or let themselves be bastardized, sin against the will of eternal Providence.
Today they say that Christianity is in danger, that the Catholic faith is threatened. My reply to them is: for the time being, Christians and not international atheists are now standing at Germany’s fore. I am not merely talking about Christianity; I confess that I will never ally myself with the parties which aim to destroy Christianity. Fourteen years they have gone arm in arm with atheism. At no time was greater damage ever done to Christianity than in those years when the Christian parties ruled side by side with those who denied the very existence of God. Germany's entire cultural life was shattered and contaminated in this period. It shall be our task to burn out these manifestations of degeneracy in literature, theater, schools, and the press—that is, in our entire culture—and to eliminate the poison which has been permeating every facet of our lives for these past fourteen years.
We were convinced that the people needs and requires this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out.
There may have been a time when even parties founded on the ecclesiastical basis were a necessity. At that time Liberalism was opposed to the Church, while Marxism was anti-religious. But that time is past. National Socialism neither opposes the Church nor is it anti-religious, but on the contrary, it stands on the ground of a real Christianity. The Church's interests cannot fail to coincide with ours alike in our fight against the symptoms of degeneracy in the world of to-day, in our fight against the Bolshevist culture, against an atheistic movement, against criminality, and in our struggle for the consciousness of a community in our national life, for the conquest of hatred and disunion between the classes, for the conquest of civil war and unrest, of strife and discord. These are not anti-Christian, these are Christian principles.
Bullshit. The notion that Hitler was a Christian is a myth promulgated by leftist and atheist websites (notice how KY intentionally left off a link). Hitler WASN'T a Christian. Try again.

Hitler quotes from the book "Hitler's Secret Conversations 1941-1944"

Night of 11th-12th July, 1941:
"National Socialism and religion cannot exist together.... The heaviest blow that ever struck humanity was the coming of Christianity. Bolshevism is Christianity's illegitimate child. Both are inventions of the Jew. The deliberate lie in the matter of religion was introduced into the world by Christianity.... Let it not be said that Christianity brought man the life of the soul, for that evolution was in the natural order of things. (p 6 & 7)

10th October, 1941, midday:
Christianity is a rebellion against natural law, a protest against nature. Taken to its logical extreme, Christianity would mean the systematic cultivation of the human failure. (p 43)

14th October, 1941, midday:
The best thing is to let Christianity die a natural death.... When understanding of the universe has become widespread... Christian doctrine will be convicted of absurdity.... Christianity has reached the peak of absurdity.... And that's why someday its structure will collapse.... ...the only way to get rid of Christianity is to allow it to die little by little.... Christianity the liar.... We'll see to it that the Churches cannot spread abroad teachings in conflict with the interests of the State. (p 49-52)

19th October, 1941, night:
The reason why the ancient world was so pure, light and serene was that it knew nothing of the two great scourges: the pox and Christianity.

21st October, 1941, midday:
Originally, Christianity was merely an incarnation of Bolshevism, the destroyer.... The decisive falsification of Jesus' doctrine was the work of St.Paul. He gave himself to this work... for the purposes of personal exploitation.... Didn't the world see, carried on right into the Middle Ages, the same old system of martyrs, tortures, faggots? Of old, it was in the name of Christianity. Today, it's in the name of Bolshevism. Yesterday the instigator was Saul: the instigator today, Mardochai. Saul was changed into St.Paul, and Mardochai into Karl Marx. By exterminating this pest, we shall do humanity a service of which our soldiers can have no idea. (p 63-65)

13th December, 1941, midnight:
Christianity is an invention of sick brains: one could imagine nothing more senseless, nor any more indecent way of turning the idea of the Godhead into a mockery.... .... When all is said, we have no reason to wish that the Italians and Spaniards should free themselves from the drug of Christianity. Let's be the only people who are immunised against the disease. (p 118 & 119)

14th December, 1941, midday:
Kerrl, with noblest of intentions, wanted to attempt a synthesis between National Socialism and Christianity. I don't believe the thing's possible, and I see the obstacle in Christianity itself.... Pure Christianity-- the Christianity of the catacombs-- is concerned with translating Christian doctrine into facts. It leads quite simply to the annihilation of mankind. It is merely whole-hearted Bolshevism, under a tinsel of metaphysics. (p 119 & 120)

9th April, 1942, dinner:
There is something very unhealthy about Christianity (p 339)

27th February, 1942, midday:
It would always be disagreeable for me to go down to posterity as a man who made concessions in this field. I realize that man, in his imperfection, can commit innumerable errors-- but to devote myself deliberately to errors, that is something I cannot do. I shall never come personally to terms with the Christian lie. Our epoch Uin the next 200 yearse will certainly see the end of the disease of Christianity.... My regret will have been that I couldn't... behold ." (p 278)

I knew what the link would be before I even clicked it. I saw the headline a couple of hours ago. Do you think there's any coincidence this news was released late on a Friday night?

Kudos to Rep. Peter King of New York:

"It is insensitive and uncaring for the Muslim community to build a mosque in the shadow of ground zero," King said in a statement. "While the Muslim community has the right to build the mosque, they are abusing that right by needlessly offending so many people who have suffered so much.…Unfortunately the president caved into political correctness."

The thing is, Obama's comments on last Fri night, at a "Ramadan" dinner at the White House, no less, followed by his backtracking over the weekend was a campaign gift to Republicans. You have the White House trying to "explain" Obama's remarks, and Reid breaking with Obama over BHO's remarks. Democrats, the gift that keeps on giving..

Examples of many more works that laid out how Hitler was no Christian by the time he took power:

Dipshit, Hitler grew up catholic, and was a catholic until death. Learned all he needed to know about tyranny and deception while in the catholic church.

The catholic church has worked hard to distance itself from the the nazis, but you only need to look at the concordat as a defining moment for the nazi party. The catholic church validated Hitler for the world.

No concordat = no world war II
"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."
