After the recent Penn St drama, anything sexual in nature will get less tolerance than petitition fraud. They may have the same degree of misdemeanor, but one is worse than the other in the court of public opinion.bincitysioux wrote:IMO, this wouldn't be such a big story if Bohl hadn't just weeks ago tossed from the team an oft-injured, likely 3rd string linebacker for being investigated for a Class A misdemeanor. please. 4 were backups including a redshirt frosh and antonio rodgers who didnt play in the 1st half vs rmu. jemison would have conbtributed to the team just like he did last season. for two years he was a star and starter before being benched cuz of hip issues last season. has nothing to do with stars of the team. my one question and concern is when this plays out which will likely be late winter how will they be disciplined? more conditioning or sprints? 1st game of 2013? no idea how that will work out depending on how the process plays out. my opinion is that they all plead guilty, get fined, and probationbincitysioux wrote:IMO, this wouldn't be such a big story if Bohl hadn't just weeks ago tossed from the team an oft-injured, likely 3rd string linebacker for being investigated for a Class A misdemeanor. I hate NDSU as much as the next person around here.
But all the hubbub over this seems silly to me.
Petitions? they're dumb in general.
I have no problem with letting the legal system play out on this.
People are comparing this to other instances, where players were charged with rape, or assault, or DUIs. MAJOR difference in circumstances there.

HOWEVER, Bohl isn't about to dismiss 4 starters so those 4 scrubs get lucky right here.
The need to be thanking the their lucky stars 4 starters were involved as well.

I think it was in bad taste in AD Gene Taylor saying on tv that these kids "didn't realize they did anything wrong", and "its not like its a DUI, or a sexual assult". Hey Gene...its a crime no matter how you look at it. If Ojuri wrote my name on that petition I would say thats identity theft. These kids costs the companies hundreds of thousands of dollars not to mention the man hours for the real petitioners out there getting real signatures. GT and Craig Bohl is putting football first and you know what happened to schools that did that?? PSU, USC, SMU.

Yeah! All crimes are the same! They are all horrible! He stole my identity when he wrote my name on a petition...he's as bad as Jerry Sandusky or Nevin Shapiro (Miami booster) or the guy who bought Reggie Bush's parents a house!Darell1976 wrote:I think it was in bad taste in AD Gene Taylor saying on tv that these kids "didn't realize they did anything wrong", and "its not like its a DUI, or a sexual assult". Stealing someone's name to write it on a petition is not "stealing their identity." Stealing their name and then using it to get their SSN or bank account access and so on is. Tone down the hyperbole. No one is disputing that this is wrong. Putting it in the same class as the three schools you listed is asinine.
Their are plenty of examples of "football first" institutions who have managed to stay relatively clean throughout the years. Schools like Alabama, Michigan, Auburn, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, A&M, Arkansas, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida State, Ohio State, Oregon, BYU, Oklahoma State, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, LSU, TCU, Boise State, etc. have all managed avoid the PSU/SMU/USC penalties. Sure, some have crossed the line and gotten slapped on the wrist. That comes with the territory. Only the most naive people assume 20-year old kids are going to be responsible just because they have football scholarships or play for a powerhouse team...at any level. NDSU will be no different...minus the fact that they play FCS, not FBS football.

FARGO – Charges have been filed against 15 people in connection with petition drives involving two initiated measures that now have been barred from the November election ballot in North Dakota, the Cass County State’s Attorney’s Office said this morning.
The 15 were charged with violating state law by signing a name other than that person's own name to an initiative, referendum, recall or other election petition.
The individuals are:
Lucas Albers, Aireal Boyd, Don Carter, Joshua Colville, Joshua Gatlin, Demetrius Gray, DJ McNorton, Sam Ojuri, Brendin Pierre, Antonio Rodgers, Bryan Shepherd, Charles (C.J.) Smith, Marcus Williams, Jennifer Krahn, and William Brown.
Albers, Williams, Pierre, Colville, Ojuri, Boyd, Rodgers, Shepherd and Gray are all current members of the North Dakota State University Bison football team.
Gatlin, McNorton, and Carter are former members of the team.
All of those charged have been summoned to appear in Cass County District Court on Oct. 2.

Actually Bohl could have suspended the players when "he" knew about this which was before Robert Morris now we are entering the 3rd game of the season. Is he waiting until the NCAA does something or until after their trip to Frisco.Bison Fan in NW MN wrote:JayJ79 wrote:

He said he is waiting for the legal process to run first before he implements any discipline.

“There are not going to be any suspensions,” Taylor emphatically said after the game. “These kids don’t deserve a suspension. I’m not going to suspend them and neither is Craig (head coach Craig Bohl). As far as we are concerned, it is over.”
“What’s going to happen in court, in my opinion, is going to be a lot less than what people think,” Taylor said. “At the end of the day, these kids have been through enough.”
“It’s over,” Taylor reiterated. “They felt horrible, they felt horrible. Every day, their pictures are in the paper, day after day after day. It gets and old and it does get to them.
“They were villified many times over and to come out and perform like they did, it’s hats off to them. I’m tired of talking about it and I’m tired of seeing it in the paper. People need to move on because it’s not changing.”

http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/373874/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;FARGO – North Dakota State head football coach Craig Bohl said Monday the players charged with voter fraud will face some type of discipline, just not suspension.
Bohl said the players still have to go through a standard university disciplinary procedure in the wake of the charges last week.
“But that does not mean there’s not going to be some type of discipline,” he said, “either through our football office – and there will be – but moreover, the fact that they’re students. There’s a whole process they have to go through from a university standpoint.”
FARGO – North Dakota State starting outside linebacker Travis Beck will plead guilty Tuesday in Fargo Municipal Court to minor consuming alcohol, his attorney said.
A second charge of resisting a police officer will be dismissed as part of a plea agreement with the prosecution, defense attorney Bruce Quick said.
Beck, 20, was charged with the two Class B misdemeanors on July 23, two days after he allegedly ran from a police officer in the 1100 block of 16th Street North and entered a building, according to court documents. The incident happened at about 3:45 a.m.
