And if they didn't want to hire black people you're okay with that too?
Yes. You're not going to see me shrink from answering such a question.

This country is supposed to be about liberty. Unfortunately the People of the country seem to have lost sight of that.

When you hire somebody you should be able to hire who you want for any reason you want. When you opt NOT to hire somebody you should be able to opt NOT to hire them for any reason you want.

It is not...or should not be...the role of government to play "Daddy" and make you be nice to people.

You should have the right to decline to associate with anybody you wish to decline to associate with for whatever reason you have. Engaging in commerce should be a completely free and voluntary activity.

Yes but I don't see how the post you responded to with that question relates to it.

You need to go read up on feudalism.

It has no bearing on this topic.

Hint: the feudal lord can hold your citizenship over your head in return for military service. That's the kernel of it, and you can let your limited imagination work outward from there.

Yes that's one component which, btw, truly has no bearing on this topic. And no, I don't. :coffee:

Well since that is the central tenet of feudalism (from which all other characteristics derive), I'd say whatever point you were trying to make has pretty much been porked like a 10 year old orphan at Penn State.

Go read a book and come back with something better and more apropos.

Well, whether there is a parallell to feudalism or not the point is that people should have free choice when it comes to who they associate with and who they engage in commerce with. If someone wants to buy the service of another who that "other" turns out be be should be none of government's business in any respect. And if someone wants to sell their service to another the same thing should apply (that, for now, still applies as far as I can tell).

It shouldn't have to be a good reason. It shouldn't have to be a rational reason. It shouldn't have to be consistent with egalitarianism. If someone doesn't want to hire Christians they shouldn't have to hire Christians. If someone doesn't want to hire White people they shouldn't have to hire White people. If someone doesn't want to disabled persons they shouldn't have to hire disabled persons. So on and so forth.

And it's amazing to me that we have come to a point...actually came to it decades ago...where people accept the idea that government should be interferring with such choices. Telling someone that they MUST engage in commerce with someone they'd prefer not to engage in commerce with is a pretty darned big intrusion on freedom.

I agree...in theory. But entrenched and/or monopolistic power can also be a pretty damned big intrusion on freedom. And, just as a reminder, without government there is no "free market". 8-)
