Anyone who says that Montana is football and nothing else hasn't been paying attention. Their boys hoops team has been to the NCAAs at least a couple of times this decade. That's something the majority of us can't say.

As do I....however, I do it only to see if SH gets upset I'm calling them girls instead of women.

In the past 3 years they have had 11 NCAA post season appearences in the 4 "major" NCAA sports (Men's BB & FB and Women's BB & VB). The next closest of the 132 FCS schools has 6 appearences.



You can now refer to UNI as "flagship"

You're right....UNI has proven they can compete at the highest level in many sports, regardless of the size of school they are playing.

The rest of the FCS hasn't proven that.

"Premier" should be associated with occasionally being the best. Since this is an FCS football forum, can you remind us how many FCS football NCs UNI has? Zero? Maybe that question was too demanding. Can you remind us how many FCS football NC games UNI has been in? One? You have a different definition for "Premier" than I.

BCS only relates to football too, but people (internet, media, and otherwise) constantly use it when discussing other sports..

while technically both terms are solely related to football, they often serve as a handy qualifier for d-I althletic programs in general. Since at the majority of d-I schools, football is what brings in the lions share of the revenue (and conversely, usually requires the greatest amount of expenditures), so it makes for a rough gauge of the size of athletic budgets. Of course, there are outliers and exceptions to the general trends, but that's going to be the case no matter what you use to catagorize.
