That's an obscure and often disputed number. In fact, you would be hard-pressed to find any credible source give a definite number. Approx. 3M people in the colonies with best estimates of 200K - 250K colonials serving throughout the war. That's comes out to 6.6%. I can only imagine they are using the rough number of how many men were in service during the height of the war (approx. 80K which gives you 2.6%) but that's a bad number to use b/c it doesn't involve anyone that served and left, or has yet to serve.

I would love to see the "facts" those jokers have.

The Forest Service contends that Kornec did not file the proper paperwork for his mine in 1986, resulting in an agency ruling that his claims were abandoned. Kornec had filed the paperwork a day late, but he did not appeal the ruling and instead filed a new claim.

Yeah? Provide me with evidence of that. Don't be naive. Best evidence shows that roughly 6.6% fought in the war. Over the entire period. Like is said, best evidence shows more than 3%. It's not a difficult statistic. See above, that 3% number comes from the number of people serving in the militias and regular army at the height of the war. But you can't leave out those that fought in the early days and last days. I just looked in a reference book I have and saw that they say 95,000 people served at the height. I want to say that the militas made up the bulk of our forces (as opposed to Regular army) so that would even more muddy the waters. Thus proving this 3% number is bullshit b/c it's simply unverifiable.

These "patriots" that call themselves 3%ers have no facts to back it up. It's a legend like Marie Antoinette saying " let them eat cake."

And honestly, it's an insignificant fact. Nobody cares what % of the population fought.

The actually fighting force of a military is the smallest component. So, fighting force doesn't mean shit, especially today. Are you telling me that if you met a medic from the Iraq War or WW2 you'd tell them that their service didn't count b/c they didn't fight? Approx. 9% of the US population served during WW2. No, you wouldn't. It's bullshit. 80% of the jobs in today's military are non-combat. Are you telling me that their service isn't valued?

According to you, military SERVICE only exists if you are part of the 20% of the military in a combat MOS.


Also, Don't forget those that served between wars. Their time in the military doesn't matter you to either.
