For a hopefully productive response to OP: Watch from 31:30 to 47:00 if you have time. Here is one man's (Nate Fick, a Dartmouth alum) telling of his reason for joining the Corps, as well as an excellent look inside OCS. I don't believe I've seen another docu that got this level of access. My reasons for joining overlap his quite a bit.

Col Bob Chase, then OCS Commander, is featured heavily in this. He was my Company Commander ("Frozen" Fox Co) as a Major at TBS in the Fall/Winter/Spring of 96/97. I was dressed down by him a few times and they were all memorable. He's a really good dude.

The bit also made me reflect on my OCS Plt Commander, LtCol (then Capt) Max Galeai, who was killed in Iraq by a suicide bomber disguised as a tribal leader. RIP.
