"Western" bracket this year: Fordham, Sacred Heart, EKU, San Diego...

What was the "western" bracket last year? You had Montana/SUU on one side, and EWU/NAU on the other.

Not one thing was mentioned in this thread about losing to ndsu. They are the best team in the fcs bar none. Never came close to picking the kats over them. Had a blast in fargo. pound for pound the best tailgating in the country too. The 6am flight out on Saturday was a bad decision.

Maybe you should lobby for a bowl system.

SELA- not easy.
JSU- maybe just a bit over rated. But your only measuring stick is Sam houston who you are biased against.

Playing 3 games on the road. Yeah thats easy. Not like unh who got the winner of FU and sacared heart then chatty. That was much harder road to the semis. (Sarc off).
It's an accepted fact (except those with EC(b)) that the Eastern Brackets are always easier because all of the soft autobids (with the exception of San Diego 8-) ) lie in the East. But saying UNH got an easy road to the semi's doesn't negate the fact that SHSU had one too. Now, if you want to argue which was EASIER....that's a different discussion.

No, that is the discussion. Jso has been saying that the kats had the easiest path to the semis when clearly UNH did.

Regardless. You're still acting butt hurt defensive.

As for UNH's easy trip to the Final Four, lets just rack it up to being the #1 seed and leave it at that.

Call me crazy, but isn't the #1 seed supposed to have the easiest path?

By all means give them a pass. Ok, sam houston had the easiest path to the semis because we have to exclude the #1 seed. Got it.

JohnStOnge wrote:I did wonder about the sunglasses thing. But we all know it's almost certain that Sam Houston State would not have been in the semis this year if Villanova had not lost its starring QB. They got a good draw in getting to play another Southland team that lost to Southeast Missouri State and Stephen F. Austin during the regular seaosn then an OVC team in the second round. Then they got Villanova without the Payton Award winner.

Incredibly lucky sequence of events. But tonight they pretty much verified that the result is that North Dakota State got an easier opponent in the semifinals than it had to get by in the first round and the quarterfinals.

Do you get upset when the basketball brackets come out in March and all the #1 seeds play the #16s too?

Except he's spot on in this particular case.

Losing to a D-II, even if they DID just win their NC, should automatically disqualify a team from being in the playoffs.
Yeah, but that Div II would beat probably 2/3 of the I-AA teams including a few that other playoff teams lost to. Plus wasn't SHSU the Southland AQ (or was it SELA)?

Really good DII teams are hardly ever scheduled by FCS schools. SHSU should be faulted for playing a good DII when there are so many not-so-good DII's out there.

Nowhere in JSO's post do I see him make the statement that SHSU had the EASIEST past to the semi's.
Thank you. I didn't recall saying that but was wondering if I should make the effort to go back and look at what I wrote.

I think I wrote something in another thread about New Hampshire not being that impressive because of getting handled by Toledo 54 - 20 and struggling with Chattanooga. I think I even mentioned that Chattanooga only managed 111 yards against Jacksonville State during a regular season matchup. I must admit I expected Illinois State to handle them more easily than the Redbirds did.

I must admit that in THAT game New Hampshire looked pretty darned good and physical. I'd watched them play Chattanooga and they didn't look impressive at all. I guess you never know for sure.

Well, to be fair, about 1/3 of the "playoff teams" shouldn't be in the FCS playoffs either...I'm looking at you, USD, Sacred Heart, Morgan State, Indiana State, Eastern Kentucky, SFA and an overrated Jacksonville State.

Just like you didn't predict JSU beating Sam but you did?
No, I didn't predict either team winning that game. I just said that Sam Houston State had a good draw among the unseeded teams in drawing JSU. I thought it was the second best draw for the unseeded teams behind Indiana State drawing Chattanooga.

I was looking at things from a Southland Conference perspective. I considered the game between Sam Houston State and Southeastern Louisiana to be a coin flip and thought that whichever Southland team won would have a good chance of getting into the final eight because they would draw Jacksonville State. I figured that would be another coin flip type game.

But it's a heck of a lot better than drawing, say, Illinois State or North Dakota State. Or Coastal Carolina. I don't think anybody from the Southland would've had a snowball's chance against Coastal Carolina this year.

The Southland had a good draw. It was guaranteed to get someone into the second round because two Southland teams were playing each other then once one of them got there they were going to play Jacksonville State. It meant the Southland had a good chance of having someone in the quarterfinals.

Now, I did think it would be all over when they had to play at Villanova. But we all know the story there. I don't feel bad at all about getting that one wrong because ANYBODY would change their outlook if they knew Villanova's Payton Award winning starting quarterback wouldn't play.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
