Yep. The most popular news network and most widely-read newspaper in the country are somehow on the counter-culture fringe. Thanks for sharing that bit of wisdom with us.

NewsCorp, the parent company of Dow Jones & Co. which publishes the WSJ, is hardly counter culture. Even though it was split last year in to a new News Corp and 21st Century Fox, the companies have an impressive list of assets. NatGeo, Fox Entertainment Group, Hulu, SyFy, Speed, Fuel TV, Hundreds of newspapers in a dozen or so countries, satelittle TV, radio, etc....

If you're categorized as a media conglomerate, you most likely the Establishment more-so than anyone else.

To Conks and only Conks, yes Fox News could be considered The Establishment. However, taking in the entire spectrum of media, they are both the red hedded step-children. The Blaze is another part of the niche media. Because Fox News and The Blaze share a similar ideology, they cant be diametrically opposed from eaxh other. The counterculture exists to be the diametric opposition to The Establishment.

There is no doubt that the WSJ is the go to source for financial news. However, editorially speaking, they are sitting at the same table with Fox News.

Fox news is the establishment. Look at all that NewsCorp owns. They are everywhere. The Blaze, ugh, is right up there with Al Gores Current TV (before he sold it).

Ibanez...again, it doesn't matter how big you are, how much you own, or your market share, The Establishment are the philosophical and cultural elite...the ones who hold the power in the media. Even with all his assets, that is one club membership Rupert Murdoch's money can't buy.

FOX and The WSJ are the new counterculture media. :suspicious:
Talk radio is entertainment. I agree…for some. It also happens to be a part of the media.
And CNBC is now all of the sudden right-wing? Economically (which is what it covers)…yes. It's a Wall Street/mythological free market/neo-liberal cheering squad. Ever listen to Maria Bartiromo or Rick Santelli?
Yeah…there's no such thing as right wing establishment media.
Maria Bartiromo is not with CNBC anymore. And Rick Santelli is fucking awesome. :thumb:

The CNBC reporter whose rant helped launch America's tea party movement was told off Monday amid -- what else -- one of his epic rants.

As Rick Santelli shouted from the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade against the Federal Reserve's policies on "Fast Money Halftime Report," CNBC reporter Steve Liesman took him down a peg.

"It's impossible for you to have been more wrong, Rick," Liesman said. "Your call for inflation, the destruction of the dollar, the failure of the U.S. economy to rebound... The higher interest rates never came, the inability of the U.S. to sell bonds never happened, the dollar never crashed Rick, there isn't a single one that's worked for you."

“I wasn’t wrong on inflation," Santelli declared. "I didn’t know policy would be so bad that we’d get no velocity after five-and-a-half years.”

TIME explained Santelli's argument in its deconstruction of the on-screen fight:

By velocity, he basically means that no one is spending money, even though the Fed’s QE program has, in a sense “printed” a lot of it. Santelli has claimed before that he didn’t actually predict high inflation. As Business Insider has pointed out, the record says otherwise.
"Every single bit of advice you gave would've lost people money," Liesman told Santelli. "There is no piece of advice you've given that's worked."

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Santelli is right or wrong. I'm saying he is very entertaining.
And Santelli is not wrong yet. I have seen a lot of criticism of companies like IBM producing good earnings reports that benefited from stock repurchase rather than top line revenue growth. That is the use of "free money" that Santelli rants about.
