Everything in moderation.

Eat meat WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE EATING MEAT...TRUST YOUR BODY'S CRAVINGS.

I keep beef, pork, chicken, turkey and fish in either my fridge or freezer...process my own meats (pastrami, corned beef, etc) and make my own sausage - italian, breakfast, chorizo, andouil - have raised.my own pork and beef in the past and just had a friend buy into another steer this fall.

Worried about your health? Stop eating processed foods and start cooking fresh!

And one final comment re: pregnant vegan/vegetarians...

...during my life I've known dozens if not hundreds of vegan/vegetarian women who've become pregnant.

EVERY ONE OF THEM, no exceptions, ate animal protein during their pregnancy: Sometimes just fish or poultry, but all reiterated a similar sentiment that they "...needed more protein in their diet."

Not just my opinion...to the mouths of babes, so to speak.
My wife was vegetarian for 8 years before our first kid and couldn't get enough red meat during that pregnancy.

I totally agree about whole foods and listening to your body. If it says eat meat when your pregnant... Listen to it. If it says red meat and pork tends to give you the shits and gas (like me), deal with it or limit your intake.

Listen...

As for anecdotal, there has been much research that shows people who have reduced to eliminated meat from their diets and had all sorts of ailments (obesity, RA, gout, diabetes, etc..) greatly reduced if not completely cured. Meat consumption has greatly increased. What used to be once or twice a week for most people is now 3 times a day.

Correct. B12 and Iron can be difficult to get for some, however guess what? Leafy greens and legumes fix the Iron problem and a simple b12 pill a day does the rest. Done. Problem solved. Or, you can do the liquid. BOOM! Problem solved.

You should always listen to your body, but if you're shitting out your intestines every time you eat red meat, then there's a problem.

And one final comment: Beef has about 6.5 grams of protein per 100 calories. Broccoli has about 11 grams of protein per 100 calories. :coffee: Just sayin'. There is also more iron and calcium in that broccoli (both which a pregnant women needs).2 cups of kidney beans has about 25 grams. The point is that a wholesome, vegetarian diet can supply a person with the necessary amount of vitamins and minerals.

Now vegans, those people are a bit crazy. :thumb:

I understand cravings, but that whole, "meat has more protein" mantra is a myth that is repeated by ignorant people who fail to research their food. :coffee:

Unless he's a vegetarian in which case you can get there through his vagina.

Got into a debate with an uber-sheep sister-in-law during the holidays one year...she was a wannabe vegan, but agreed to "compromise" for Turkey Day...I kept pushing betting her I could have her eating steak by dinnertime...if I barbequed a thick, marbled, porterhouse. I hopped in the car, ran to the market and picked up a huge, gorgeous, porterhouse...

..when I got home, she had left...saying I was being offensive.

Bottomline...she knew she would have succumbed.
