Grizza is right. Too many parents these days f***ing sterilize everything within 30 feet of their cribs when they are babies and buy expensive air filters for their houses. You can't build up any immunity to crap if you aren't exposed to crap. Probably the very same parents who only let them eat organic food because "processed" food is so eeeeeeevil.

A simple solution is to have epinephrine available. If a kid is allergic to bee stings or ant bites are you going to tell all the kids they can't have recess because those kids can't go outside? :ohno:

I wonder if someone wipes down every surface their child touches in fear of their allergy? No carnivals, no rides, no baseball games, no team sports???

I always carry epinephrine while backpacking and have one in my pickup most of the time. Not for me, but if someone needs it, it is nice to have handy.

Most of this I agree with. We banned anti-bacterial stuff from our house. I agree to a certain degree that a strong immune system is aided by exposure in small doses to stuff. However, in this case, there is no way to let my son get random small doses of tree nuts in a way that won't possibly kill him. Like I said earlier, he has already been cured of his pnut allergy with a form of long term desentization therapy, and is slated to do the same with tree nuts. If these trials work this may be a solution to the problem in the future.

Epinephrine doesn't always work. And while your example is idiotic and not at all comparable, I would say that keeping everyone inside to avoid a bee sting is unreasonable, but forbidding a kid from bringing a beehive to school in his backpack wouldn't be.

I just happen to be really well off financially and so I am one of the largest single annual donors to my children's school's endowment. So it isn't too surprising that when any ass clown like you or Jizzstain try to make a fuss, they get asked to find a different school for their rug rats.but again, what about the poor kid in the kindergarten class at the local public school? Or the kid with the latent undiscovered allergy? Or the kid with the parent working third shift who can barely keep the family together much less guard against food allergy incidents? You guys are dooming that kid. You might as well do what chizzang said and euthanize the kid now. Shameful attitudes from two adults to take towards someone so young who is in essence defenseless. :ohno:

Exactly how young is too young to learn to be cautious about not getting exposed to allergens? A lot of kids who are allergic to ant bites or bee stings learn PDQ to be mindful of avoiding those things. Kids might as well learn early to avoid eating things with hidden peanuts or peanut products. Most cases you read about people dying from food allergies are from large-scale exposure, like eating products with hidden peanuts or with peanut butter in the recipe. I doubt there are very many, if any at all kids having any serious reaction because they were touching toys with peanut butter residue on it.

As far as why you'd want to feed your kid peanut butter, it is actually very nutritious and the fatty acids in it are generally less deleterious than a lot of other fats kids get in their diets. When you have a nutritious food product that kids will eat it's a good idea that they get a good bit of it.

So it is your contention that the over whelming nutritional value of pnut nutter is so fucking awesome that it is justifiable to risk the life of multiple children per school to make sure that the rest of the kids get enough of it? Your not half the shit stain I had you pegged as Pwns. So should schools ban all foods that are potentially allergic?

I got this one DD. YES. So should restaurants, theme parks, stadiums, etc....Peanuts and other foods that COULD trigger an allergy will be given out by Pharmacists ONLY and must be consumed right there and then.

"Risking the life of multiple children"? That's going a bit overboard, no? Can you show me an example of a kid who died because he borrowed a pencil from a classmate that had peanut butter grease on it?

BTW, I've got a cousin with a kid who is type I diabetic (i.e. diabetes you are born with and not acquired) and you won't find that kid's parents trying to get sugary foods banned because some kid might give him some gummi bears and cause a glucose shock.

I think it's pretty funny that a guy like you who is generally very politically incorrect and all about personal responsibility all of the sudden turns into "protect the children" zealot when it comes to something that affects YOUR kids. Think about that, smart guy.

In a case per case basis I believe it is reasonable to limit accessibility at very young ages. My opinion? By second grade they should be able to monitor themselves well enough to protect themselves. But that's based on my personal experience with the kids at my children's school. All those kids are wicked smart and very mature. I don't know if that would translate to the typical public school setting. My son is in kindergarten and he knows to always ask, and if the answer is "I don't know" then it is a no no.

Look, I'm not worried about my son. I've got him covered. I just don't think it's unreasonable to protect children when we can. And the reality is that in this situation we can. It's surprising that Jizzstain, who is otherwise pretty progressive in his thinking, doesn't. :suspicious:

I am absolutely all about personal responsibility in adults. If a thirty year old is allergic to nuts, and eats a slice of pecan pie and dies? That's called natural selection. But kids are an exception in my book. Sorry. I guess I have a soft spot for the defenseless.

As for an example, I don't have a link to the interwebs about it, but I know of a case just this past year where a teenager was on a date. His date ate apiece of pnut butter pie. He kissed her (I'm assuming tounge was involved), he had a reaction, and before they could get him help, he died. So, yes, accidental exposure in small amounts can cause serious reactions.

What I want to know is why you guys have such a hard on against these poor kids? :?

I'm really surprised that I am having this argument with you. Who knew you were such a pathetic, horrible little person. I'm truly disappointed. :ohno:

Isn't it the parent's job to inform the teachers/principal about their kid's food allergy?

It seems like there are all kinds of allergies now compared to when I was a kid. There are probably some form of allergy that kids have in most foods. Are we going to ban all school lunches now?

Absolutely. If the parent knows they'd be crazy not to inform everyone they can. But not all parents are created equal BF. I'm not worried about the parents, it's the kids I'm concerned with here. Again, fuck an adult who can't take care of himself, and at some point the kid is going to have to do the same. But when we can, we should try really hard to protect the very young. And I would also put special needs kids who are older in that group as well.

Ideally, it would be more effective to segregate the kids with allergies from the others. That way the other kids can eat what they want. I think most schools don't do this because the are concerned with bullying, self esteem issues, etc. I'd opt for safety first and go for the segregation option, but they didn't ask me.

As to why there are so many more kids with allergies now? I've had a lot of discussions with the immunologists at Duke during the trial visits. They don't know why, but some of the evidence points to all the shitty preservative laden, processed food Pwns is so fond of. :suspicious:

It's got nothing to do with what I want you ignorant cunt. It's about some little kids who can't speak up for themselves, and who didn't ask to be stuck with this condition. I couldn't bring myself to give half a fuck about some ass bag like you. You're on your own and I'm sure that suits you just fine, but I do tend to get pretty fired up about protecting little kids. Much more now that I have some than before that I'll admit. And yes, I definitely am more acutely attuned to this issue because I have a child who suffers with a food allergy. I'll never apologize for that.

I'll never apologize for that.
You miss the point because you are too busy hurling insults. :thumb:

Isn't it the parent's job to inform the teachers/principal about their kid's food allergy?

It seems like there are all kinds of allergies now compared to when I was a kid. There are probably some form of allergy that kids have in most foods. Are we going to ban all school lunches now?
Absolutely. If the parent knows they'd be crazy not to inform everyone they can. But not all parents are created equal BF. I'm not worried about the parents, it's the kids I'm concerned with here. Again, **** an adult who can't take care of himself, and at some point the kid is going to have to do the same.

I agree with the points you make but is that too much for any one entity to try and handle? My point is when will it stop?

Johnny cannot have milk.....Sally has a peanut allergy....Michael is allergic to orange juice......Sam is a vegan....on and on. I'm all for protecting our kids but the gov (broad encompassing example) cannot control everything we do or come into contact with.

My good friend's daughter is a vegan. He (my friend) didn't go into the school and raise hell because there is meat on the school lunch menu. She brings her own lunch. Parent responsibility.

Look at Bloomberg in NYC with his 16 oz limit on soft drinks. People can make up their own minds. I don't drink soda pop so could care less if they were 100 oz.

My point is that gov cannot be everything to everyone. Parents need to be PARENTS. I get your point about kids with bad homes and they have bad parents that do not give a crap.

I don't remember anything like this growing up...

Honest question not a challenge...
According to the immunologists at Duke, they don't know for sure. I tested positive for Celiac in my bloodwork, so maybe I passed the tendency on to my son. But I really didn't start showing symptoms big time until a few years ago, so maybe not.

I know one thing. It's gotten ridiculous. I think something is fucked up with our food chain brother, and this food allergy thing is just a symptom. That's kinda spandosish sounding isn't it? :?
