Any reason why evolution and creationism are necessarily mutually exclusive?

Agreed, and that is why I can only attack Evolution, for I know there is no way to prove any one theory.
All I'm going to say on this subject is that there is more solid, physical evidence supporting the evolution theory than any other out there. Believe what you will, but them's the facts.

yeah, you could stay God jumpstarted the process. but, it still wouldn't be the literal way it happened as described in genesis. man didn't evolve from anything in genesis. god just snapped his fingers, said the magic words, and it was so.

I got an email the other day that said it REALLY happened like THIS:
EVE'S SIDE OF THE STORY
After three weeks in the Garden of Eden, God came to visit Eve. "So, how is everything going?" inquired God.

"It is all so beautiful, God," she replied. "The sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking, the smells, the sights, everything is wonderful, but I have just one problem.

It's these breasts you have given me. The middle one pushes the other two out and I am constantly knocking them with my arms, catching them on branches and snagging them on bushes. They're a real pain."

And Eve went on to tell God that since many other parts of her body came in pairs, such as her limbs, eyes, ears, etc. She felt that having only two breasts might leave her body more "symmetrically balanced".

"That's a fair point," replied God, "But it was my first shot at this, you know. I gave the animals six breasts, so I figured that you needed only half of those, but I see that you are right. I will fix it up right away."

And God reached down, removed the middle breast and tossed it into the bushes.

Three weeks passed and God once again visited Eve in the Garden of Eden.

"Well, Eve, how is my favorite creation?"

"Just fantastic," she replied, "But for one oversight. You see, all the animals are paired off.. The ewe has a ram and the cow has her bull. All the animals have a mate except me. I feel so alone. "

God thought for a moment and said, "You know, Eve, you are right. How could I have overlooked this? You do need a mate and I will immediately create a man from a part of you. Let's see....where did I put that useless boob?"
Doesn't that make more sense than the whole "rib" theory? Just sayin'.... :coffee:

Keep in mind I'm not a churchgoing guy, but I'm open minded enough to hedge my bets a bit. ;)
I guess my thought was "what would a day be to God?" A day has a pretty definite time on this planet, but if you aren't constrained by the dark/light cycles of a planet's rotation could a day to a creator be hundreds or millions of years? Maybe the events were set in order by a creator, but "man" as we know him today from the Genesis account only materialized through a process of evolution?

That may be true. But, it's not in Genesis.
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

27 So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
He made man in his image. He didn't make an ape that was to slowly evolve into his image. He didn't make a primordial pool of life that was to evolve into all other life. Snapped his fingers, said "abracadabra" and created man.

Maybe each "day" of creation is actually thousands or millions of years. Certainly possible. But, if that's the case... what did the omnivores eat during the millions of years between creating animals and creating plants?

There are loads of questions out there like you're posing, and I don't read anything there that says he didn't create a primordial pool of life. Whenever a new skull of a probable ancestor is excavated scientists categorize it as a certain species or era of human evolution right up to our current Homo Sapiens. What's not to say that when God created "man in his image" that the biblical account meant our species? A one sentence account of human creation leaves just a smidge of grey area for interpretation, don't you think? Ask 100 clergy what their interpretation of a verse is and you'll get 75 different answers.

I don't think that they are. I think religion and science look stupid when they try and disprove each other.

Many religions are based on faith, if you can prove it, it's not faith. If God doesn't want science to prove His existence, it won't happen.

on the other hand:

When scientists come up with a theory, it's silly to argue against it in the name of religion. It didn't work out too well for the Catholic church when they tried to silence those who argued that the Earth was not the center of the universe. Right now, evolution is the prevailing theory. It may not be the right theory, but until a more logical one comes along I'll take it. Making shit up because the Bible doesn't say anything about man decending from apes is just dumb.

Don't know what field he's in. From his posts, I thought he may be retarded and/or was enrolled in some publicly subsidized work program in fast food.

As your statement is pretty broad, I can't tell which evolutionary process you are referring to in regards to biologists. If you are simply talking about manipulating the genetic codes to make genes express different proteins, then that is not evolution. While it may mirror what some believe to be evolution because it would replace mutation, albeit at an incredible rate, genetic manipulation is hardly evolution.

On a side note, you had mentioned genetic engineering. Have you seen any of the studies in regards to what genetic engineering of food is doing to lab animals? Some studies have shown it to cause organ failure.

http://www.seedsofdeception.com/Public/ ... /index.cfm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In addition, does genetic modification of our food make sense? According to Evolution, man has slowly evolved with diet over hundreds of thousands of years, but yet the scientists who believe in Evolution believe they can drastically change the DNA content of the food supply and there won't be any adverse effects. Seems the problem is the gene that is put in the food is assimilated by the bacteria in your gut and then that bacteria start producing proteins that your body have never seen before.

While I wish GMO worked, for it could help to provide crops to feed the World, we just don't have the science to figure it out quite yet. Regardless, this also is not evolution.

I don't hate science at all. In fact I love science and technology and realize it has made life much easier for everyone.

Certainly, yes. Cannot be refuted as incorrect.

As I rehash this thread every year, I have come to realize that evolution means different things to different people. I am not saying certain aspects of evolution don't happen, for that is obvious. What I am trying to say, is that we don't slowly turn into a different species over time (from ooze to man).

In your example, the viruses and bacteria both undergo microevolution, but in the end, they are still just that - a virus and a bacteria. With the two's ability to swap genes with scary efficiency, shouldn't we have seen a new organism by now? Especially considering how many experiments are performed not only in academia, but corporate America as well. All that messing with their DNA and still no new species.

Watched a slow in History channel last night that stated if you crammed the entire world's/universe's existence into 14 years, man's presence (in our current form) on earth wouldn't happen until the last SIX minutes.
