Apparently Mickey Matthews does. Maybe the NCCA does too.

Toward the stadium please. We're trying to get their drunk asses closer to the stadium so maybe they'll realize a football game is being played.

Andy, not getting big student attendance has been there for decades, not anything new. The crowds we draw are primarily alums, locals & local white trash.andy7171 wrote:Hold up.

2012, the end of the world is upon us!
Ok here's the deal. I was President of the Cockpit from 2006-2008...Graduated Spring of 2009. While I was there we wanted it to be as easy as possible for students to get into the games. So as long as they brought their UD ID card to the gate they would have it swiped and be let into the student section. If more students came than seats allowed in the student section they would be put on the goaline to five yard line on the home/away side to accommodate the overflow. We actually had a decent student turnout during those years. The leadership group of the Cockpit helped get sponsorships with the UD Bookstore, CocaCola, Dart Bus, and the UD Alumni Association to pay for our various giveaways we had. With that money we designed new shirts each season, gave them away at various football games to encourage student turnout. Then we'd use that funding to get Cockpit Bookbags, sweatpants, and hoodies that were giving out to students who accumulated games attended. It worked great and I really think we had a student section that impacted the game.93henfan wrote:Do we have any current UD students on the board? I don't think so, which is telling in its own right. I'd like to know what the "student pickup" is that they mention in the Youtube video that is now not required.
Why in hell would we want to make it more complicated to get asses in seats? This administration boggles the mind sometimes.

Is there a difference?bluehenbillk wrote:alums, locals & local white trash.

What the hell else are you going to do in Boone?T-Dog wrote:This is about 40 minutes before kickoff on the home opener this year.

"The Cockpit" - the UD student athletic fan group is sponsoring an effort to get 5,000 plus students to pack the W&M game next weekend (10/8), even giving away $5K large to one lucky student.
Great idea to help pack the Tub and send the Tribe home packing an L.
Now if we can just lure back the 4,000 season ticket holders that have left...
It'd be nice to get a full student section. It's an uphill battle though. They cross the bridge to drink in the lots, not watch what they consider small-time football in the stadium. I got a unique perspective at the first home game. I took both my sons (mistake, but a valuable lesson learned) to the game and we ended up leaving toward the end of the first quarter, after nearly getting rolled by Chris Christie. Anyway, I decided to head into Newark and I was floored by the thousands of students still in the ice arena lot and hundred and hundreds making their way back up College Ave to campus. This was the home opener, so they were basically not even giving the game a thought.
