Re: House votes to defund ObamaCare
Chizzy is absolutely correct on the for profit insurance problem. We're the only industrialized nation in the world that allows for profit insurance coverage of basic healthcare. I'm sure thathasnothing to do with us being the most expensive. Insurance simply spreads the risk. It's a utility that does not have to be complicated or expensive to administer.
Like most other problems, public funding of elections is the answer.

Public financing of elections is very much akin to putting the fox in charge of the hen house.kalm wrote:Chizzy is absolutely correct on the for profit insurance problem. Just because I oppose public financing does not mean I support the current "system". I'm just saying that a public financing law would be written by those who currently abuse the "system" and would have loopholes, etc., that would allow themselves to get whatever monies they felt they needed. And then there is my primary objection. All politicians misrepresent their positions, some would call it lying, in order to get as many votes as possible. So as I do not donate to politicians or to groups that support politicians, for the most part they are lying to me on someone elses nickel. With public financing they will be lying to me while using my nickel. The fact that they lie at all is offensive. Lying to me while spending my money to try to fool me is off-the-scale offensive.kalm wrote:Conks never did care for democracy much but I appreciate your honesty.TheDancinMonarch wrote:

Except that for a short period a few years ago, Big Oil (especially Exxon) got shut down in AK....

I read my post over 6 or 7 times and I'm pretty sure the word corporation wasn't there at all. Unless it was in the special invisible font.houndawg wrote:Oh stop it.TheDancinMonarch wrote:

I was referring to you getting the vapors over those who abuse the system writing the rules. It's SOP.

The GOP ran on defunding that monstrosity of a bill and won big in November. They are simply carrying out a campaign promise and doing what the voters asked.

Baby Joseph had the tracheotomy surgery this morning in St Louis. If it were up to Canadian healthcare, he would have already died in a Canadian hospital. Scary when the government has say over matters like this. The Office of the Public Guardian, which advocates for people who can't speak for themselves, could order a breathing machine to be disconnected from 13-month-old Joseph Maraachli — with or without parental consent — as soon as Tuesday.

Seriously. Good thing we don't live in Canada and have anything similar to the "Office of the Public Guardian."89Hen wrote: Scary when the government has say over matters like this.
Also was sad when our Republican Congress got involved in the Terry Shiavo case to score some cheap political points (that of course backfired).

The one-page memo, distributed to Republican senators by party leaders, called the debate over Schiavo legislation "a great political issue" that would appeal to the party's base, or core, supporters. The memo singled out Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., who is up for re-election next year.
"This is an important moral issue, and the pro-life base will be excited that the Senate is debating this important issue," said the memo, reported by ABC News and later given to The Washington Post. "This is a great political issue, because Senator Nelson of Florida has already refused to become a co-sponsor and this is a tough issue for Democrats."

Wow you are gullible as hell.
"Sorry guys! I didn't write this and had no idea what it said! I was just passing it around before a vote on the Senate floor! Honest mistake, guys!!"Marttinez's statement confirmed that it did exist, and that he himself had handed the document to Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, mistakenly thinking it was background information on the bill.

So you are down with treating immigrants on your dime?
Actually, in the US, people die daily when denied life saving treatments, either by insurance companies, or cheap-ass Republican legislators in Arizona.
