I would hope they get at least two wins, considering they are playing both Quincy and St. Josephs.
But other than that, even if they did only win those two, I would consider it improvement if they avoided having so many lopsided losses.
They lost to an NAIA last season.

6. Richmond Spiders
7. Elon Phoenix
11. South Carolina State Bulldogs
16. Delaware Blue Hens
17. Jacksonville State Gamecocks
20. Prairie View A&M Panthers
23. Penn Quakers

Can't say I agree with these spots.

Yes, they lost to Quincy. A team that they are playing again this season.
If they don't win both of those sub-D1 games this season, I'm not sure I could say that they improved. Unless they happened to win more games in conference, or against someone other than the conference doormats.

I found out that all of the voters from CSN were taken off the list this year. I found that particularly interesting. Not sure if that was on purpose or by accident.

Good for TSN if they initiated it. Hopefully they can restore some credibility to the poll.

Yes. It does matter (though only as much as a preseason poll matters) to the credibility of the voters. To get points, that means somebody put them in their Top 25. For Indiana State to get 12 points, either multiple asshats put them in their Top 25 or somebody voted for them at #13. You really don't think that shoots the credibility of this poll out of the water?

Exactly. Think about this - someone likely voted Davidson as #3 in the country (I think that's how the points system works). Their voting privileges should be revoked.

TSN definitely did. I'm sure a couple CSN folks are upset.

As a voter I take my responsibility very seriously and can honestly say I have never voted for someone that people have called a joke. I try to be as honest and fair as possible. It is a privilege to vote in it and I believe as a voter we owe it to the fans, players, and coaches to put as accurate a vote as possible.

I know that Coulson used to give us grief at AGS because we tossed ballots and banned voters. This poll only reaffirms that we were doing the right thing.

Montana State ranked ahead of Northern Arizona is interesting. NAU beat the Bobcats soundly IN Bozeman last year, the Lumberjacks are much-improved on defense, NAU's offense may be the best in the country (SF Austin is pretty good, too) and they play this year in Flagstaff. Last year, the Bobcats were ranked #25 when they were beaten by the Jacks. Look for that to happen again. Fortunately, it will be the Lumberjacks, and not the Bobcats, whio will be ranked at the time.

Pre season polls are guesses.

I don't disagree that those are guesses without merit. I just don't care. It's an opinion poll and some are too dumb to voice their opinion and if they were asked not to voice it then I wouldn't have a problem with that either.

Indiana State in the Top 25 is NOT a guess. It's a joke. I wouldn't want people voting in my poll joking like that.

I think it's kind of funny.

As was mentioned, it was very likely a mistake in keying something in. It definitely should have been caught though if it was.

Davidson 23, Dayton 20, Portland State 18, Idaho State 15, Indiana State 12, Robert Morris 9, North Carolina A&T 6, VMI 5, Austin Peay 4, Butler 4, Howard...

That's an awful lot of keying mistakes. ;)

PSU with 18 votes isn't a mistake. It's just about where they ought to be until the seaon proves otherwise. Fact is, we dont know diddlysquat about this team. New coaches, new offense, new defense, moving to the Pistol and away from the gawdawful NFL mishmash of Glanville. What we do have is a decent group of athletes. All we can do is wait and see.

You just made a case for why they should NOT get 18 votes. A 2-9 team that is starting from scratch = NOT a top 25 team in ANYONE's book.

Jesus Christ people. Who the f**k cares? These preseason polls are not worth the paper they're written on. You may as well pull names out of a hat or throw them at a dartboard  I honestly didn't even look at it, as I generally don't look at any polls till at least mid point of the season when there's actually something to go on. But I did skim through all theses responses to laugh at people getting their panties in a wad over a worthless preseason poll. Why to people get themselves all worked up over this meaningless BS every Aug?

"During the regular season, the Top 25 will be released every Monday afternoon, except for on the final weekend when it will be released on Sunday morning, Nov. 21, due to its use as an official tool by the NCAA Division I Football Committee in selecting the 20-team playoff field."

I hope that isn't really true.

It is true to an extent. It is a portion of the formula used to determine the "Earned Access" bid for teams in conferences without an AQ.

Essentially it says if you are in a conference without an AQ and you have (1) 8 DI wins, (2) two wins over AQ conference teams and (3) you are ranked at an average of 20 or higher in the TSN, Coaches and NCAA GPI, then the committee has to give you a bid.

That was originally intended to provide a "bridge" to the Big South and NEC teams while they waited for playoff expansion to occur. Now that expansion has occured, this criteria would presumably apply to the Great West, PFL, SWAC and Ivy league if the teams who qualified would accept the bid (only the Great West and PFL would in practice).

The 1st poll that you should pay attention to comes out Monday, October 4th. It's pretty much guesswork before that.

I can't speak for anyone else, but this poll bothers me because the voters are obviously taking it as a joke. Even if you think pre-season polls are worthless, if you're invited to participate in a "real" poll, shouldn't you take your ballot seriously? I do.
