I'm guessing he's referring to the 0.00000000001% (yes, I'm embellishing) of illegal aliens that aren't paid under the table. That 0.00000000001% pays the proper taxes on their income and are net contributors.

I was just wondering if there were a way I could avoid paying income tax and still be a net for our society. Heck, maybe we should all stop paying income taxes. :thumb:

Conks think the CBO just makes up numbers... but, they estimate 50%-75% of illegal immigrants pay state, local, and federal taxes.

Ummmm, the paper you just cited shows they are a net drain, by quite a bit.

I didn't say it wasn't a net drain. :?

I only said MUCH higher than .000000000001% pay taxes. :thumb:

What the fuck. I've said MANY times on here that I'm NOT ok with illegal immigration.......... :? But, it's always assumed that I do.

I understand their motivations, but I don't think they should be excused or ignored. I think they should be given a legitimate path to be here legally. But, I don't support illegal immigration.

What was their background?

The immigrants that are coming here illegally have near 0% chance of coming here legally... most of them don't even have a high school education... much less a college education.

Again, if legal immigration was a realistic possibility for them... you really think they'd walk miles upon miles through the Arizona desert to come here illegally? :? They may not have high school educations... but, they do have common sense. :|

This is the right answer...... but, our immigration system means it's not a legitimate option for those that are coming here illegally. Do you really think they would walk across the Arizona desert if they could do it legally?

Sorry, KY. That is the only answer.

Please don't tell me you are one of those "open border" morons.

Coming here legally, yes. But, why all the stress of trying to figure out if you're going to be able to stay in this country where, if you are attempting to become legal, you pay taxes?

This figure above is satirically accurate... especially from my experiences with the bottom panel. Two scientist I know are currently at various stages of that diagram. One in particular almost got deported, sans his family, because our customs employees fucked up and put the wrong stamp on his passport when he was returning to the country. He ended up having to leave the country for two months because our country messed up. This mishap came back a year later when he was applying for his H-visa along with visas for his family. Him and his entire family almost got deported and were only saved from it by an intervention from the governors office via letters from prominent members of the university. By this, he was able to obtain his H visa. Him and his family are doing everything right, but almost every year since I've met this guy, some sort of immigration stress has come up which takes months to resolve. I'm guessing every immigrant trying to come here legally may not have the connections this man has, or have American citizens who are willing to help them with the process.

You say you are not for illegals...then make emotional arguements for them...

They are criminals and should be dealt with appropriately....even if it's simple deportation with no chance to become legal...EVER...

If there are people who want to come here legally...and go through the process...I SUPPORT THEM 100%...

I don't care where they are from...they are welcomed here, as my grandparents were...just follow the laws...

Barely. I'm not a lawyer... and I could be wrong... but, I believe immigrating illegally is a minor misdemeanor.

It's a felony to hire them though... so, who's the criminal? :?

Have I ever defended those who hire illegals??? Prosecute them to the full extent of the law!!!

That's something the current and all former administrations have refused to do... :ohno:

What would you like it to be? Are you for anyone and everyone to have a quick, easy path to citizenship?

Do other countries have a quick and easy path for anyone and everyone for citizenship?

BTW, I'm sure you know that "legal" and "citizen" are two entirely different things.

I know that Canada, for one, has a MUCH simpler process than ours.

Not everyone. Felonies, debt problems, etc. should be disqualifying.

It used to be easy to immigrate to the US. It's what made our country great. :thumb:

Some do, some don't. Who cares? We have different needs and ideals.

It used to be legal to own a slave too.

So as long as you're not a criminal, welcome?

WTF does that have to do with anything?
89Hen wrote:So as long as you're not a criminal, welcome?
Well, there should be more disqualifiers. Criminal and credit history are the first that come to mind. But, other than legit disqualifiers (and, I don't think education or money should be disqualifiers)... SURE!

Completely open up work visas to people who want to come here and work and don't have any legit disqualifiers. Give them a probationary period and steps to take to become a full-fledged citizen.

It will never happen, though. It's too easy to exploit them. And it's nothing new.

Do you even know the numbers?

From 1925-1965, 178,000 legal immigrants came here per year. Today it's over 1,000,000 per year.

LOL.

I wonder why you chose to look at 1925-1965 as your years. :?

That's from the CBO. I'm sure they just made them up like y'all think they tend to do.

And, yeah, the numbers are similar to the peak in 1900.... but, our population in 1900 was ~75 million.

Are you seriously arguing against my statement that it used to be easier to immigrate to the US? :? :? :?
