I think they're in the AL now. Don't really know much about them other than they're falling fast.

1. Those bases really are extremely slippery when wet, whether it is rainwater, hose water, or dew. It's time to come up with a better mousetrap.

2. You should know to never step on the top, or back side, of the base when lunging to beat the throw.

3. Bone bruise? :suspicious: :suspicious: I say it is more than that. :coffee:

Doubt it. No real strategy to downplay the injury. It was one of the most awkward falls I've ever seen.

The Nats execs (or whoever makes the call on whether or not to play) simply can't win this year. A couple weeks ago they had a two hour rain delay on a night when it didn't rain a drop. :suspicious:

I'm not suspicious of the public explanation. I'm suspicious of the diagnosis. I think it's likely something else happened as well.

Did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night Dr Flaggy? :kisswink:

The Nats, if anything, have a history of being overly conservative when it comes to injuries. They are not going to rush Harper into the lineup.

The Astros
Even after losing 7 of their last 10
Still have more wins than the Nationals

Last time I checked, they're still scheduled to play 162 this year.

Thank god the National get to play the Phillies 19 times
and the rest of their below .500 division

as in EVERYBODY except the Nationals is below .500

The NL East might be bad, but it's not been the NL East teams (well, not all of them) that have been losing to the Nationals.

The Nats are 70-46 (.603) overall
They are 7-8 (.467) versus the AL
They are 33-18 (.647) versus the NL not including the NL East
They are 21-17 (.553) against the Phillies (7-5), Braves (7-6), and the Marlins (7-6)
They are 9-3 (.750) against the New York Mets

So, the real anger needs to be against the rest of the NL outside of the NL East and against the stinkin' NY Mets. :coffee:

GF beat me to it, but to pile on, Nats vs...

Arizona: 4-2
Chicago: 4-3
Colorado: 4-3
Los Angeles: 2-1

So that's 16-9 (.640) vs the teams currently in the playoffs. Last time I looked .640 is the second best record in baseball and that's counting all the scrub games.

The only NL team they have a losing record to is the Pirates (1-2), but since they won't make the playoffs... :coffee:

Stros lose again, now have same number of losses as Nats. I think they have a head to head coming up next week too.

Chad Bettis made a huge comeback last night throwing 7 shutout innings in leading the Rockies to a 3-0 win. Not bad considering he was doing chemotherapy in May. The Rockies needed a pick me up, this could help.

Not particularly inspiring performance characteristics
I probably wouldn't "BET" too hard on the Nationals

Fastest Man in Baseball

Post by Gil Dobie »

Minnesota Twins centerfielder ran the fastest inside the park homer in recorded history on August 18th. He circled the bases in 13.85 seconds, beating his old record of 14.05. Buxton is also a Gold Glove candidate this season.

"I go back to my era and there are guys like Willie Wilson and Bo Jackson," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "There are some people that when they get going – it's hard to compare at that speed, but I don't know if many guys come close to that time from home-to-home."

According to MLB.com, the rest of the top five fastest home-to-home times measured since 2015 belong to Dee Gordon (14.24), Kevin Kiermaier (14.63) and Jarrod Dyson (14.72).
