Re: EWU @ MSU Game Thread
Body bag game - MSU starts the game down three starting lineman and I think we lost two more during the game, starting DE is out. All around ugly that way.
I think Taiwan tried to hurdle 4 players before the half and it looked like he landed nearly on his head.
Missing those two FG's really killed the momentum that EWU was building and they did get on a roll and moved the ball really well.
Lot of players were being helped off the field only to return a play or series later on both sides.
Big Sky conference is going to be a monster to get through this year.

Re: EWU @ MSU Game Thread
EWU is a good team, make no mistake. Mitchell is a good QB until things go wrong (he reminds me of Marc Bulger in that respect). And Jones, wow... could be the most explosive player in FCS. MSU got the breaks early, and then was able to hold EWU in check for the rest of the first half. Came out with our hair on fire in the second half, and never really looked back.
EWU still got plenty of yardage, they just couldn't convert them into points.
I will say I do not feel bad at ALL that they couldn't kick 2 under 35 yard FGs, after what we had to deal with last year in Cheney.
And EWU fans may hate to admit it, but as I heard someone on Fox Sports Network today talking about someone else (can't remember who), Jones is your bread, butter, plate, table cloth, utensils... not to that extreme, but he is a game changer.

Re: EWU @ MSU Game Thread
Yep, pretty much. Just wish he could have played more than a half. But when we rely on him as much as we do, he was bound to get injured. Hopefully we won't miss him for more than a game or two.catbob wrote:EWU is a good team, make no mistake. Mitchell is a good QB until things go wrong (he reminds me of Marc Bulger in that respect). On another note, there really was no excuse for how poorly EWU played yesterday. MSU had a solid game plan and executed well. Besides, that record streak had to be broken at some point. MSU is definitely the team to beat this year in the Big Sky.
We will need to get some things figured out quickly before we head to Weber, especially with no Jones.

Re: EWU @ MSU Game Thread
I do have to give props to TJ. I can't believe how agile he is and how effortless he makes stopping and changing direction. Better than anyone Wazzu had to offer.
Our OLine is really going to have to step up in place of the injuries. Coach Mac is the best at getting the most effort out of the players, though, and I think we can stabilize. We are also really lucky we have the DLine depth that we have. Outstanding work yesterday.
Hats off to Denarious McGhee. I haven't felt this comfortable with a QB at MSU since Lulay, and I think DM is a much better passer overall. Love the athleticism we have.

Re: EWU @ MSU Game Thread
MSU is banged up on both sides of the ball? How badly on the DL? The Hornets have no offense other than pounding away with Hilliard. The Bobcats could be in for a long day this next game in Sac.
Re: EWU @ MSU Game Thread
The only D lineman missing was D'Alba and he will be back this week. Starting DE O'Connell is out with a collarbone but his replacement Gale has been heavy in the rotation anyway.SDHornet wrote:MSU is banged up on both sides of the ball? How badly on the DL? Haven't heard a credible injury report yet, we may be down 1 DL, which were against EWU, and may be short a LB, but I think we have the depth to handle it if both players are missing,SDHornet wrote:MSU is banged up on both sides of the ball? the OL is our bigger concern, but the young pups played against EWU, and our OL coach is a miracle worker.

Thanks. Our front 6 has done a tremendous job against the run thus far. That will be another interesting thing to look out for this week.cats2506 wrote:Haven't heard a credible injury report yet, we may be down 1 DL, which were against EWU, and may be short a LB, but I think we have the depth to handle it if both players are missing,SDHornet wrote:MSU is banged up on both sides of the ball? I read that and went...wtf? I think I've got MSU and UM in those exact same postions! I had to go look and that is exactly where I had em'.
I had MSU at 8 last week and EWU at 9 though because I thought MSU was better team wise.
Congrats MSU you are comporting yourself well this year.
As far as the TJ concussion thing goes. I know he was checked out after the CWU game and I believe he may have been a close pass on the one. He got rocked in the UM game and just stood there when he got up and looked pretty shaken. He got rocked again in the MSU game and I do think his head in a pretty fragile state right now and I hope they are rechecking him because the dude is taking some hits that seem to be visibly shaking him in the last 3 consecutive games. That shit builds up man and I'd hate to see him not getting checked.
I don't know if he has a concussion right now but he has been rocked in 3 straight games and looked pretty disoriented and that is definitely cause for concern.
Re: EWU @ MSU Game Thread
I really do think that it is part of the sports hernia/groin contusion injury, that hit he took trying to hurdle our guy was right in there and he was hurting in his guts, he was walking humped over and you could see that it hurt to move. He had no business being in on the last play in the second half and probably not even in his last play in the first half.Ursus A. Horribilis wrote:As far as the TJ concussion thing goes. I never have seen a real good head hit to him except the same play mentioned above where he landed on his head after going over one guy and getting hit by 2 more.
He still needs to be throughly checked, I would be surprised to see him playing next week in either case.

I'm sure they will. He just been ridden real hard the last three games and has taken some pretty vicious hits. Hope he can get a chance to heal if he needs it cuz he really is a special player.cats2506 wrote:I really do think that it is part of the sports hernia/groin contusion injury, that hit he took trying to hurdle our guy was right in there and he was hurting in his guts, he was walking humped over and you could see that it hurt to move. Oh it's quite easy, actually. You just reserve 5 of the top 7 spots for CAA teams, one for SoCon leader and one for Big Sky Leader and then fill in the other 13 spots with a dart board.SDHornet wrote:Sounds like it.
