King County population: 2 million. Seattle Population: 600,000. People in Tukwila, Renton, and Kirkland don't vote in Seattle elections, and Everett is in a different county.

Again, those areas, except Everett, are within a few miles of Seattle's voting area.

Are you proposing that no one commutes 5-10 miles to work? Is that why there is no traffic?

Philly isn't a cesspool, it's just different than Seattle. Philly is more hard edged and working class while Seattle acts a little more refined. Both cities have a different flavor/character but I like them both.

Boeing would love to go all out in Charleston, but the workforce isn't up to speed yet. Everett had to pick up their substantial slack this year to make good on our deliveries.

Come on buddy. Our slack? The North Charleston plant was built from the ground up with an inexperienced workforce. The plant here is doing great and is proving that the job can be done without the unions. Mistakes happen but while you guys are bitching about pay, we're earning ours. Boeing has been making more and more investments here, we're building the 737MAX engine, home of an IT center, we're building a paint shop so that planes don't need to be flown to Texas for painting, The employees here don't hijack a company and demand pay raises and such just because they can. The unions are losing and eventually Boeing will pull out of Washington altogether.

I don't take what the Mechanics up here in Everett have to say about Charleston not meeting their commitments too seriously. Boeing knew exactly what they were doing when it came to creating a brand new workforce in SC.

As for Boeing pulling out of Washington, I doubt that, but they will bust that union down to nothing by pulling the same trick over and over - we will move if we don't get some concessions. This was the first shot. By the way, you should have read all the comments on the local paper's website telling all the Boeing employees how lucky they were to have a job and a great paying one as well.

Every city has something of a hard edged and working class element. Some cities just have more of it than others and comparing Seattle to Philly is like deciding who is more of a biker - a guy who rides a Goldwing on weekends or a Hells Angel.

There is a tech school here actually it's larger than Clemson University, and they begun training people for the jobs that Boeing would bring, years before the ink was dried on the initial contracts. My cousin went through some intense training before SHE was allowed to work on the planes.
