Myself, and those I care about could give a rat's ass about the peanut butter issue!
IMO, the issue that needs to be addressed here is the bar in Boone that charges $7 for a shot of Jager!??! WTF is up with that?

Dear lord... please allow this dangerous combination of hair spary, bat slobber, and D.O.T. four automatic transmission fluid to excite my mind, occupy my spirits, and enrage my body, provoking me to kick any man or woman in the back of the head regardless of what he or she has or has not done unto me. The ADA is fucked up and needs to be redone.89Hen wrote:Skjellyfetti wrote:If parents are so concerned about their kids coming into contact with peanuts... fucking homeschool them.
It shouldn't be on the onus of every other parent to make sure they pack their kids lunch with items that do not contain products that OTHER parents' kids are allergic to.If parents are so concerned about their kids eating peanuts... fucking homeschool them.
I wonder what all you guys who are vehemently opposed to limited some foods think about the ADA.

We kinda' recouped our losses a little bit on those $7 shots! When we left that particular bar, there was at least 2 shot glasses in every pocket...
If you drink and travel, it can get a bit pricey! We had a layover in Chicago, and spent our time in the Blackhawks bar. Beers there were $7, there was six of us, and our tab came to around $150!
All the drinks on this trip seemed to be in the $7 range, and I still don't know WTF is up with that!??!
The mini-bottles of alcohol on our flights were $7, and ALPHA, being the kind and generous person he is, paid for mine! Probably the greatest alcoholic drink I've ever had was the 190 Tiger in Greenville, SC, and it was $6.95...but worth every penny!
Other than the $7 shots of Jager, and the $7 beers, I thought the prices were about right.

Yeah, I'm not really sure how the American Dental Association and peanuts ate related.kalm wrote:What does the ADA have to do with peanuts?Vidav wrote:

In some cases. I was at a nature center outside of Naples, FL a couple years ago. 90% of the money for the center came from private donations. It included a nature trail and boardwalk to explore wildlife habitat. Found out it had to close a few weeks later because the nature trail wasn't easy to navigate in wheelchairs.Vidav wrote:The ADA is fucked up and needs to be redone.89Hen wrote:If parents are so concerned about their kids eating peanuts... fucking homeschool them.

I don't think people should be forced to accomodate people with disabilities. I think people with disabilities are responsible for adjusting to the world rather than the having the world be forced to adjust to themJust wondering how folks feel about businesses having to accomodate persons with physical disabilities.
And I say that as the father of a deaf child. If people VOLUNTARILY decide to accommodate you, that's great. Wonderful. But no one should be FORCED to accommodate you. Not in private industry anyway.
If it's government and a situation where government says you have to do something I can see accommodation if a disability would make it otherwise impossible for you to do it.
But stuff like private businesses having to have wheelchair ramps, etc.? No. That should be happening.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth

You probably don't recall this, but years ago you convinced me that smoking shouldn't be allowed in bars based on the ADA.89Hen wrote:In some cases. Paraphrasing your argument, you asked if people with asthma, on oxygen, etc. Shouldn't have the right to frequent an establishment. My argument was over. And I admitted it.
My point is, you bring up the ADA frequently, but I can't get a reading from you.
It's a Love/Hate thing, isn't it? You like it, but sometimes think it goes too far.
Right?

Accommodating kids with a food allergy would be making sure to provide alternative meals that are peanut free. I'm cool with that.
Forcing all the kids in the entire school to not eat peanuts... isn't accommodation. It would be more analogous to forcing everyone to use a wheelchair to "accommodate" the disabled kid in the wheelchair.

Re: What the fuck is going on in this country?
This was the exact scenario that played out just a few nights ago when I was grabbing dinner at a local bar. There was a white trash couple to my right. The bill came. I saw them grumbling about something. They called over the bartender and their exact words: "You charge $7 for a shot of Jagermeister?" The bartender ended up going to the manager and getting it reduced. I didn't hear the settlement amount.
Dude, even I, a certified cheapskate, would not stoop to that level. You have to pay to play when you're drinking.
Cheap bastards.

The last time I checked, people with food allergies aren't in a protected class.
However, I don't see any reason schools can't make reasonable accommodations for kids who have allergies. Totally banning peanuts isn't reasonable. The onus ultimately falls on the parents and kids themselves.
