Their last one was when??? Before Bill Clinton was in office?? Its 2014. Lets at least talk this millennium. I know The Citadel likes to live in the past....WAY in the past like the 1800's. But please, for the rest of us, keep it modern. Since 2000, every single team in this state, at every level, has won some sort of title, except The Citadel.
A bit of a history lesson. In 2005, when CSU won it, they beat a Coastal team who was 9-1 and ranked in the top 15 at the time. Also...you may wanna take another look at the Big South. The BSC owned the SoCon last year. What was it...like 9-2 vs the SoCon??
BTW, speaking of the Big South....you are a VMI fan it seems. Um...you guys joined the Big South...were a doormat the entire time...and bolted back to the SoCon. Hardly a position to talk about the Big South fella. Did VMI ever finish anywhere but dead last in the Big South? You sound like a Citadel fan now- talking trash about a conference that you were once part of, and could never do anything other than finish at the bottom before you left.

I can tell you this much....when VMI left for the BSC in 2003, our program was in shambles. In fact we went 1-10 as recently as 2001. Our first year in the Big South, we have SoCon-level talent that goes 6-6 and 2-2 in the conference. This was a time when we competed and sometimes beat Liberty and Coastal (who was a good program even then).
And we destroyed Chuck South that year 34-12. They went on to win the conference title.
Of course a couple years later the transition started to catch up with us and we began our descent into shittyness. Clearly we never should have left, as it was a panic move to try to start winning by beating up on lower-tier competition. It never worked because we
became that lower-tier competition. Now we are back in our rightful place, the SoCon.
And I'm willing to bet in 3-5 years, we will be beating up on the Big South (Liberty and CCU exempt of course) just like we did pre-2003. The Big South is a crap conference and always will be.
P.s. you guys had one 10-3 year last year, which featured a late-season chokejob preventing you from winning the title. Other than that your program has done close to nothing in all of its existence.
So you are blaming the Big South for making you worse?? Just like The Citadel. Its never your fault, right? We did go 10-3 last year. And 9-2 in 2006. Top 25 both years. A Big South ring in 2005, 7-4. That isn't a LOT. But its far better than what VMI has done. And, in the past decade, we've done something twice that VMI has failed to do: Beat The Citadel. You have had 7-8 tries, and cant do it. We have done it twice in our last four tries (since going fully funded).
I wont waste much time talking about VMI. For one, you aren't in the Big South anymore, and you aren't on CSU's schedule. Your program was irrelevant in BOTH of those conferences. So....yeah, not much else to say. You could always just drop to Division 2 and hope you can compete there. But I doubt it. Newberry, Carson-Newman, Valdosta, etc, would beat you there.
VMI hasn't had a winning season since 1981. You don't have much room to criticize any other program except maybe Savannah State. You could drop to Division 3, and have a new military rivalry with the Coast Guard Academy
**PS- yes, we did choke last year. We were 10-1, and needed only 1 win to win vs either GWU or Liberty (who both would've won the SoCon last year) at least a share of the Big South Championship. And guess what? VMI will probably NEVER be in the position to even have a shot to choke on a championship game opportunity. Good luck this year with The Citadel, you'll need it, as usual.
