.500 UOP to CIT
University of the Pacific (15-15/6-12 WCC) was selected (i.e. bought their way into) their third CollegeInsider.com Tournament. They will go on the road to face Grand Canyon (15-14/10-6 WAC). I expect a good, hard-fought game won by UOP, but that will probably be about as far as they go. UOP DOES have a history with the CIT, though. They were the runners-up in 2010, losing in the final to SW Missouri State.
I see the other thread announcing VMI's participation. The CIT page hasn't "officially" announced the field (or the schedule/bracket) yet. Has anyone else here heard about their schools getting into this 3rd/4th tier post-season tournament?

UNI turned it down...
Re: .500 UOP to CIT
I mean, it's not even the NIT. Why should we even give a quarter of a fuck?

Re: .500 UOP to CIT
Unless it's a hand involving your team you shouldn't. UNI played in it last year and I couldn't tell you who was in it other than UNI and the teams they played...
I paid attention because I love UNI basketball and will watch any game they play in...a majority of the majority of teams aren't like me which is why a lot of schools turn this thing down

Re: .500 UOP to CIT
Yeah, I just don't like basketball. I have no intention of watching Delaware get destroyed in the first round of the NCAA tournament. When I was younger and dumber, I actually made a point to watch us get destroyed by Cincinnati one year and Louisville another in the tournament. Don't need to waste my time like that any more.clenz wrote:Unless it's a hand involving your team you shouldn't. Re: .500 UOP to CIT
I guess it's different being a UNI fan knowing that we can/do compete with the "big boys" on a regular basis. Our average loss in the NCAA's is by just over 5 points...in fact I think every game has been by 5 points except one that was 8 or 9...including a S16.93henfan wrote:Yeah, I just don't like basketball. I love CBB and watch way more than I should...however, I will make less than zero effort to catch CIT and CBI games unless a team I'm familiar with has an interesting match up (see UNI last season, or a conference mate or rival is playing)
Re: .500 UOP to CIT
Eh. No mid major is going to win it all. If it makes you happy to lose close then so be it.
I actually went back and checked and we only lost to Louisville by like 6 points in 1993.
But it's still a loss.

IIRC Delaware made it interesting at the end of the Louisville game. The Hens started pressing and made a comeback, but they waited too long to start pressing so it wasn't enough. The Cincinnati game was ugly from the start.93henfan wrote:Yeah, I just don't like basketball. I have no intention of watching Delaware get destroyed in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Spencer Dunkley was the center for the Hens, he was pretty good but not quite NBA good. He was drafted by the Pacers, but ended up playing pro overseas.

In terms of teaching, these tournaments are a great thing. If your team is young, those extra games give you extra practices and extra opportunities to prove what they've learned against actual competition. If you have seniors, most of them will appreciate the extra chance to play in their college uniform.
Win-win situation for me....

Most guys aren't going pro, they play CBB because they like it, the more games the better.SuperHornet wrote:In terms of teaching, these tournaments are a great thing. Re: .500 UOP to CIT
UOP beat Grand Canyon on the road in the first round, and is dominating TX A&M-Corpus Christi at home in the second round (46-28). This is the last game of the second round.
The tournament is going to get VERY ECB-skewed in the second round, as all second round winners save for U of San Diego are from east of the MS River (in fact, only USD and Ohio are not on or near the East Coast). If the committee chooses to continue the regionalization, we'll see UOP vs. USD III. I'm hoping for an opponent from farther away, and thus save USD for the finals. We'll see.
Interesting that the Ivies are doing VERY well in this tournament, and in the post-season in general.

Re: .500 UOP to CIT
CIT final four are UOP, Yale, VMI, and Towson/Murray state. VMI is grinding hard to secure a home game on Tuesday.......any theories on matchups? Someone's going to have a five hour flight on Monday, anyway you cut it.

Re: .500 UOP to CIT
I was shocked to hear that Murray State beat Towson State. After we took care of U of San Diego, I was most scared of Towson State....
