And he doesn't think that happened with Dancel? Locksley is an ace recruiter but I'm not sure about his scruples. Edsall's being a prick because if O'Brien succeeds and he doesn't the Terps are going to know they made the wrong choice. He and the administration would rather screw a kid over than risk looking bad. Oops, too late for that.89Hen wrote:Because that's where their OC went and Edsall believes that he violated rules on engaging O'Brien while he was still under schollie. Either that or he's just really a prick like Wanstadt at Pitt when he wouldn't let Flacco go.UNI88 wrote:
Why exclude Vandy? They're not in the same conference.
And Maryland had no problem taking Zach Dancel who followed his coach from New Mexico. Just a wee bit hypocritical on their part.

Here is a recent article on the O'Brian issue.
"My media colleagues seem to be split in their opinions of Maryland football coach Randy Edsall. One camp thinks Edsall is a self-serving, hypocritical turd. The other camp thinks he is a shameless, ruthless disgrace to his profession."

Just read that SI article - I thought public whippings had been outlawed years ago. Holy Crap - a week of prison rape looks like a feasible alternative to the beat down Edsall took in that column.

Edsall has done a 180 in the past 24 hours & is allowing O'Brien to goto Vandy if he wishes.

I am sure that Delaware fans could care less whether their QB comes directly from high school or tries out at some FBS school. We should all be "as lucky" as The Hens in obtaining quality QB's. Their success comes with hard work and understanding the various situations. Nothing wrong with that. Keeler is an excellent coach and recruiter. Evidently has a knowledgeable administration to work with, which could kill a program, just ask Western Carolina fans before recent events.
The FBS to FCS transfer rule is one of the few advantages that we FCS schools have. Unfortunately my school, Appalachian State, has had very few FBS transfers over the years compared to some. Many FBS transfers we have had have been kind of busts. Like a certain former four star SEC lineman. I know we have turned down more than twice as many FBS transfers as we have accepted, as many FCS schools have done, but you don't always make the correct decisions based upon information available. In no way am I referencing any particular player or transfer, so do not think that there is any inference.

Yeah, it's pure speculation and purely misses the mark. Keeler's been at Delaware for 10 years, in that time he's had either good to spectacular QB play for 8 of the 10 years. Only the Schoenhoft debacle in 2008 and the situation this past year (just ok QB play from the backup after losing the starter, both high school recruits btw, for the whole season, and maybe his career, in the season opener) has the QB play not been like I said, either good or spectacular.
In fact, you can probably say that the QB position has been the best staffed position on the entire roster in Keeler's time at UD. And I'll go even further - name me three schools who have had a better run of QB's in that time than Keeler has - from Hall to Riccio to Flacco to Devlin. Hard to argue with the results - KC's QB's, no matter where they have come from, have excelled far more than they've failed. If he was as successful with the rest of the team as he is the QB spot UD would have more than one ring in that time.
I think you missed my bigger point... it does matter where they come from. Nobody can dispute that Keeler has enjoyed very good QB play from Hall through Devlin but all those players were guys who had transferred DOWN a level. Keeler has not yet demonstrated the ability to scout a QB in HS, sign him, develop him, and keep him in the program and win with him over a 4 or 5 year period.
At the BCS level there is not a lot of transferring and virtually no transferring down. Keeler's record would indicate that he should be receiving more interest from BCS schools but that doesn't seem to be the case and there has to be a reason.
