This is the reason UNI almost exclusively does home and homes where they get the first game. Not because they have the intention of buying it out, because the money is never there for UNI to do it, but so it doesn't happen to them. UNI has honored every other game with SUU they have set up ( 3 or 4 over the last decade)

What's your problem with that?

It is very difficult to get home games against FCS teams out west. This will screw over SUU next year.
When SUU signs a deal to play a D2 or lower next year on the same date that the UNI was set to be played I might...maybe...listen to you bitch about it.

Until then, no. UNI plays in the same state as another FCS school and can't even get a home and home with them. For our home and home's UNI has gone with NAU, SUU, SFA, and a 2-1 with USD. I don't want to hear about UNI not playing teams.

If SUU was going to pay UNI 450k, UNI would stay with that game as well.

Ares you saying you would like NAU to turn down 500k+ in gross revenue for a game, when they have been told by the state that you can no longer receive state money and have to run football in the black...all because you had a game set with a legal way out of it with a team that it would cost you over 100k to go play? This is a turnaround of about 600k for UNI.

Huh? That's bullshit. A program like SUU is freaking lucky to even get a program like UNI to come out and play a game on their field in the first place. (which UNI has already done) They are getting paid off for the game anyway so what does it matter?

Pretty easy decision if you are UNI. Get paid a bunch of money to go play a televised game against a B10 team, or spend a bunch of your own cash to go out to buttfuck, Utah and play a game in front of 2K people.

jesus you are an arrogant bastard of the JBB/lakes variety.

SUU will be a member of the best FCS conference next year - far better than the podunk MVFC.
I'm not being arrogant at all. Its just the facts of scheduling in D1 football, and you should know that.

Don't come crying to UNI about how tough it is to schedule. You think its easy for UNI to get home games against quality schools?

Matter of fact, UNI has gone on the road and played at schools like South Dakota, Drake, SFA, and Southern Utah just in the last few seasons. Name me another upper echelon team that has gone on the road to play teams in some of the lower level conferences like that, Jon.

It's very easy...haven't you saw the great games UNI has gotten lately because of the ability to schedule since 2000? St. Francis, Drake, Minnesota-Mankotox2 and Minnesota-Duluth and UND (D2), Nichols State (on a Thursday night), USD x3 during their transition, Morningside (NAIA), Wayne State (d2), Northern Michigan (d2).

Thankfully UNI was able to get some games against McNeese, SFA, and SUU, as well as SDSU during their transition

WISC/IOWA are both afraid of playing NDSU, both have turned down our AD gene taylor.

obviously WISC is mad at our bball team for beating them when they were #8 on their home court

SUU.... shut up, no one cares

lakes is actually onto something here…those 2 Big10 games will just be scrimmages compared to what UNI will face when they meet up with NDSU later on during the year. SUU has no room to gripe.

some of DJH's comments do remind me a little of the rhetoric of certain Bison fans.

As far as SUu being "screwed".....
hey, if you don't want your return game being bought out, then don't include a buyout clause.
but I doubt anyone actually involved with the SUU program will get too offended by what is essentially free money for them, with plenty of time to schedule another opponent.

UNI announces games with Wisconsin for 2012

Hey Cap'n and D

I'd be up for going to Madison, hanging out on State Street, Chasing down some fried cheese curds with a Wisconsin Stout, watchin' a football game.........................

Whatever else we can find to do in Madison..................

Jon, reports are SUU is getting upwards of about 200k from this buyout. Do you really think SUU considers themselves screwed at this point?

They are getting 200k for a game they don't have to play, which will more than cover an "screwed" feelings plus even a single game buy for the majority of the SLC type teams, then a lot to pocket on top of that.

Again, in case you missed it....BETWEEN ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND AND TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR NOT EVEN TAKING THE FIELD

bluehenbillk wrote:So basically to make the FCS playoffs in 2012 UNI will need to win their league.
assuming that they fill their last spot with a "lower level" FCS opponent, and they win that, and assuming that they lose both Big 10 games (which while not a certainty, is the most probable result), then they could very likely snag an at-large if they finished second or third in the MVFC, with 6 or 7 conference wins.

of course, if UNI resorts to buying a D2 game to complete the schedule just to get a 5th home game, then they would have very little room for error in the conference.
UNI's best bet for '12 would be to Bison-out and pay a non-scholarship FCS team to come to the dome. Two Big 10 losses and the traditional beating at SIU means they're starting the season with a 8-3 maximum for the season. Good enough to still make the playoffs if they stumble and go 7-4, as long as the 4th loss isn't a real bad one.
You matter. Unless you multiply yourself by c squared. Then you energy.

Go back and check history, but I believe UNI has played Weber State at least once, if not twice.

I did actually, They have met a grand total of 3 times with UNI holding the 2-1 advantage. however, the last time these 2 teams met was in the first round of the 1991 playoffs.

09-23-1978 in Ogden, Weber won 35-9
09-13-1980 in Cedar Falls- UNI won 31-10
11-30-1991 in Cedar Falls- UNI won 38-21 (Playoff game)

Weber State has played a grand total of 5 current MVFC teams. they are 4-8-1 overall. 3 of the 5 were last played before 1980.
0-4 vs NDSU (last game Fargo 2005)
0-2 vs W. Illinois (last game Macomb 1976)
0-0-1 vs South Dakota (last game Ogden 1970)
1-2 vs UNI (last game Cedar Falls (Playoff) 1991)
3-0 vs South Dakota State ( last game Ogden 1976)
