Technically speaking, they are not "bowl eligible" due to transition rules. However, they ARE allowed to accept a bid when there are fewer officially bowl eligible teams than available spots. It appears that there are 80 officially bowl eligible teams and 82 bowl bids. Transitioning teams with six wins get considered before the infamous 5-7 teams that ALSO have to clear GPA rules (not always easy).

Had they had more spots than just those that could be filled by Delaware and SW MO State, I would very much prefer six-win FCS teams that didn't make the playoffs to get consideration. While it would be seriously stretching things to think that my 7-4 Hornets could get an FBS bowl bid, I really think that 9-3 Monmouth would have done well....

I disagree with the fcs non-playoff teams getting a bowl bid. There are commitments that schools make when transitioning to fbs If a school wants to participate in bowl games, then they need to make those commitments.

Transitioning teams with six wins get considered before the infamous 5-7 teams that ALSO have to clear GPA rules (not always easy).

Had they had more spots than just those that could be filled by Delaware and SW MO State, I would very much prefer six-win FCS teams that didn't make the playoffs to get consideration. While it would be seriously stretching things to think that my 7-4 Hornets could get an FBS bowl bid, I really think that 9-3 Monmouth would have done well....

I disagree with the fcs non-playoff teams getting a bowl bid. There are commitments that schools make when transitioning to fbs If a school wants to participate in bowl games, then they need to make those commitments.

Agreed. If you want to play in FBS bowls, then make the transfer and make it happen.
