First Round Week: Breakdown

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

Playoffs

ILST 21-3 SELU
CCSU 19-27 URI
HARV 7-52 NOVA
UND 31-6 TTU
UNH 3-41 SDKST
DRAKE 17-38 SDK
LAM 20-38 ACU
YALE 43-42 YSU

  • Best Performance: North Dakota 31, (#13) Tennessee Tech 6 - It wasn’t as lopsided as the final score would indicate (it was 10-6 after three quarters), but the Fighting Hawk defense dominated the game with 6 sacks, 6 forced turnovers, and 3 fourth-down stops (Lance Rucker had 3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery).

Worst Performance: Harvard 7, (#12) Villanova 52 - The Crimson set a new standard for late-season collapses as they allowed 140 points in their last 3 games after giving up just 93 points in their first 8. :suspicious:

Most Surprising Result: Yale 43, (#15) Youngstown St. 42 - The final score by itself wasn’t real surprising, but to see an Ivy League team in their first-ever playoff game come back from 28 down in the second half to beat a Missouri Valley squad with 4 national titles in their trophy case on the road is shocking.

SWAC

SU 28-27 GRAM (in New Orleans, LA)
tusk 21-58 ALST
FAMU 31-35 MVSU

  • NConf Record: 1-0
    Overall: 16-22

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 4-10

Best Performance: Southern 28, Grambling 27 - An interim head coach wins the Bayou Classic for the 3rd. time in the last 5 years.

Worst Performance: Florida A&M 31, Mississippi Valley St. 35 - The Rattlers finish with a losing record for the first time in 8 years after falling to a 1-10 team that had lost 6 games by at least 38 points.

Most Surprising Result: Mississippi Valley St. 35, Florida A&M 31 - To accompany a defense that nabbed 3 interceptions, a Delta Devil offense that only had 7 touchdown passes on the year coming in threw 4 TD passes to help pull off this upset.

That Yale thing was cool. Also enjoyed the way the Ivy league guy made the intelligent play at the end where he slid down before scoring so they could just go into victory formation instead of scoring and giving YSU the ball with at least some chance down 7 or 8 depending on how the extra point went.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

That was smart!

What a great day when an Ivy League team beats the prestigious Missouri Valley team in a playoff game

it must be noted that the playoffs were not polluted with not so beautiful big blue sky teams like Northern Arizona and Sacramento State

I would’ve liked to have seen Villanova play UC Davis that would’ve been a good game. Rhode Island is always overrated for some reason and they are gonna get whipped…. Maybe

The BSC is rated #2 overall and in SoS. The Ivy is 5 and CAA is 7…behind the Southern. They are 8 and 9 in SoS. NAU and Sac would pass an eyeball test too if they were facing the lines oh Hampton and Columbia. The Big Sky plays teams like SDSU, UND, Oregon, and ASU rather than Stetson and HC.

Crawl back under your bridge until the CAA and Ivy start playing decent OOC schedules.

It was an impressive comeback…against the 4th best team in the Valley.

Any given Saturday.
