Here's a Way to Make The NFL More Interesting

...after getting rid of that dummy Roger Goodell, anyway.

1. Realign into 4 separate leagues:

New England
Buffalo
New York Jets
Pittsburgh
Baltimore Colts (Yes, I mean that. The re-located Indianapolis Colts.)
Nashville Sound (The re-located Houston Texans)
Jacksonville
Miami

The Paul Brown Football League

Los Angeles Chargers
Las Vegas
Denver
Kansas City
Houston Oilers (The re-located Tennessee Titans)
Indiana Hoosiers (The re-located Baltimore Ravens)
Cleveland Browns
Cincinnati Bengals

The George Halas Football League

Seattle
San Francisco
Los Angeles Rams
St. Louis Cardinals (The re-located Arizona Cardinals.)
Detroit
Minnesota
Green Bay
Chicago

The Tom Landry Football League

New York Giants
Philadelphia
Washington
Dallas
Carolina
Atlanta
Tampa Bay
New Orleans

2. An ELEVEN-game season featuring a league round-robin (7 games) and 4 cross-over games with NO pre-season. Yes, this is the college format; it returns to a traditional December championship.

3. Revert to ONE-platoon football and eliminate specialists. This would not only do a lot to eliminate injuries (I highly doubt that the starting quarterback playing free safety will get tossed for targeting), but it would likely simplify playbooks since players would have to know and execute both offense and defense.

4. Eliminate regular season overtime. That would also save on injuries. It's OK to accept the tie.

5. Eliminate the bogus Goodell Kickoff.

6. The playoffs would consist of the league champions and the next best 4 teams. Everybody in the playoffs plays in the first round.

Of your changes, maybe the 4th one (no regular season OT) might work. The rest are all DOA though. No one wants the season and playoffs to end in December - if anything, the playoffs (most of January) and the Super Bowl (trying to get it to President's Weekend to make it an official holiday) are the best things about the NFL and regularly do incredible ratings.

There was a report today that NASCAR fans are p!$$ed off because the schedulers caved and pushed the Daytona 500 off a week to leave that weekend for the Super Bowl, a result of the bogus new 18th game.

They whine about injuries, and then they do THIS? Goodell's a hypocrite....

There are still NASCAR fans? Who knew?!?

There'll be an 18th game, that's a certainty. And they'll couple it with reducing the exhibition season even further. But the NFL is not facing any kind of issue of lack of attention - the NFL, in its current format, is more popular than at any point in its existence.
